EE57833 CASE# 24-2601 OF COLLISION 03/09/24 10:24 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On 03/09/2024 at 1025 hours, I was in full patrol uniform and driving a marked Renton Police patrol vehicle when I was dispatched to S Puget Dr & Benson Dr S in the city of Renton, County of King, State of Washington regarding a hit & run collision no injuries. While en route, dispatch updated that RP Jonathan White was following Unit1- WA BRY4149 (Ford Escape) which was the vehicle that hit his vehicle (Unit2 -WA CKV9888). He followed it to Burnett Ave S & S 3rd St where Renton Police Officer Cumming initiated a traffic stop and detained D1- Serena Autio pending the hit & run investigation. I spoke with RP Jonathan White and he told me in summary: He was in front of his residence at 2707 SE 16th St when he heard a loud bang. He saw that his vehicle, Unit2 had just been struck by Unit1. RP White explained that his vehicle was parked in the roadway directly in front of his residence (facing east). Unit1 appeared to be in the opposite lane of traffic and side swiped Unit2 which was a parked and unoccupied vehicle. Unit1 caused damage and paint transfer to the rear driver side of Unit2. RP White said he got into his vehicle (Unit2), followed Unit1 and called 911 to report the collision. I then spoke with D1-Serena Autio and she told me in summary: She wasn't aware that she had struck another vehicle. She didn't know the location of where she had driven from because she was trying to find her uncle's house, who she did not know the address of. I saw that there was damage to the front driver side of Unit2. She was not injured and had nothing further. Officer Vanderhoek had inspected the vehicle for damage when I spoke with RP White. Officer Vanderhoek said he pushed his finger on the damage on the front right driver side and black paint chipped off. I determined that was the point of impact when Unit1 struck the rear driver side of Unit2. There was other paint damage and paint chipping off the front of Unit1, but it appeared old and unrelated to this incident. I did not document this incident as a hit & run because it appeared D1-Autio was unaware that she collided with a parked vehicle and could not prove that she knew. The damage to the vehicles was not major enough that I could reasonably argue that one would have known. Furthermore, D1 admitted that she did not have insurance for her vehicle so I wrote her a citation RCW 46.30.020 - Operating a motor vehicle without insurance. Unit1 also had expired license plate tabs as of 10/20/2023 so D1 was also cited for RCW 46.14a.030.5.0 -Expired tabs greater than two months. Reference citation #4A0235633. I have nothing further. This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized.
