EE48836 CASE# 24-440 OF COLLISION 01/12/24 19:09 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On 01/12/2024 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked police car as 3R23. At approximately 1911 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking collision at the intersection of Sunset Blvd NE/NB 1 405 on -ramp which is located within the city of Renton, county of King, Washington. Dispatch advised that on Sunset Blvd NE, there was a 2 vehicle motor vehicle accident on the roadway. Dispatch also advised that the vehicles were blocking and that there were no injuries. When I arrived at the dispatch location, I was able to locate both Unit 1, Unit 2, and a witness who stayed on the scene of the crash. All occupants inside Unit 1 and Unit 2 were outside of their vehicles standing on the median. There was also another officer on the scene who had already begun gathering information from the involved parties and the witness. The other officer on scene had explained that Unit 1 was in the left turn lane from Sunset Blvd NE getting ready to turn onto the NB 1 405 on-ramp. Unit 2 was continuing southbound on Sunset Blvd NE down the hill. Unit 1 had then continued to head northbound on the NB 1 405 on-ramp at the same time Unit 2 was passing this intersection to continue southbound on Sunset Blvd NE. Unit 2's front end had then collided with the passenger side of Unit 1 at the intersection and had apparently pushed Unit 1 slightly south of the intersection on Sunset Blvd NE. The other officer on scene also stated he spoke to a witness who was behind Unit 2 traveling southbound on Sunset Blvd NE. She identified herself to officers as McKenna E. Randall (DOB: 10/25/1995, verified via DOL photo). She stated that she witnessed the collision as described above. I also spoke to the driver and front right passenger of Unit 1. They both similarly stated that they were approaching the NB 1 405 on-ramp from the northbound lanes of Sunset Blvd NE. They continued past to head onto the ramp when Unit 2 collided with them. Both the driver and front right passenger of Unit 1 stated they were not injured. I also noticed that Unit 1 sustained damage to the passenger side of the vehicle. There was a large dent that ran along the passenger side of the vehicle. I then spoke to the driver of Unit 2. He also similarly stated that he was headed southbound on Sunset Blvd NE about to pass the NB 1 405 on-ramp. He then stated that Unit 1 continued to head toward the on-ramp. Unit 2's front end then collided with Unit 1's passenger side. Unit 2 stated that the vehicle belonged to a friend and did not have insurance for the vehicle at the time. I advised him to contact Unit 1 once he had the insurance and warned him that he needed a copy of the insurance on his person. The driver of Unit 2 stated he was not injured. I also noticed that Unit 2 sustained damage to the entire front end of the vehicle. Unit 2 had a large dent that crushed the front end of the vehicle. I did a brief observation of the scene and saw that the turn area that Unit 1 was in to head from NB Sunset Blvd NE to the NB 1 405 on-ramp had a yield sign. Based on the fact that Unit 1 had a yield sign that indicated for him to grant right of way to southbound traffic that was between Unit 1 and the NB 1 405 on-ramp; and the fact that Unit 1 had continued past the yield sign which resulted in Unit 2 colliding with Unit 1, 1 found that Unit 1 did not grant right of way to Unit 2 which resulted in the collision. I subsequently issued Unit 1 with a traffic citation for violation of RCW 46.61.190 (3) -Vehicles entering stop or yield intersection. Unit 1 PAGE 3 OF 5 REPORT NO. I provided both parties with a copy of the exchange of information before departing the scene. Bankers tow eventually arrived and towed both vehicles out of the roadway. The Washington State Patrol (WSP) arrived on the scene of the collision and provided traffic control assistance for a brief period as Renton officers conducted the traffic collision investigation. This report is for informational purposes to document the collision. This concludes my report.
