EE94099 CASE# 24-6944 OF COLLISION 07/02/24 18:02 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 24-6944 On 07/02/2024 at approximately 1819 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking vehicle collision at the intersection of South 36th Place and 103rd Ave SE (aka SE 174th Street), within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While en route, Dispatch advised that there were updated reports of injury from one of the involved parties and that the Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) would be responding as well. Dispatch also advised of an active dispute between the involved parties. Upon my arrival, RRFA was already on scene evaluating the involved parties. All involved parties were treated at the scene and released. While on scene, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling southbound on S. 36th PL approaching the stop-sign controlled intersection of 103rd Ave SE. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he was intending to turn left at the intersection to proceed eastbound. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he stopped at the intersection to yield to approaching traffic. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he believed traffic was clear and proceeded into the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that while traveling forward, Unit#2 suddenly appeared and that both Unit#1 and Unit#2 collided in the intersection causing moderate damage to the front passenger quarter panel, to include the headlight and bumper, of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#1 stated that following the collision, the driver of Unit#2 approached him in an aggressive manner on foot and proceeded to assault him. Officer T. Ediger was arrived on scene and completed an investigation into the alleged assault. Please see Officer Ediger's supplemental report for further details. The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound on 103rd Ave SE approaching the uncontrolled intersection of S. 36th PL. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to continue straight through the intersection but that just prior to reaching the intersection, Unit#1 failed to yield to his vehicle and pulled out into the side of his vehicle. Both vehicles collided causing moderate damage to the driver's side doors of Unit#2. Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Jakkal) was the predominant factor for the cause of collision as Jakkal did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and underway. Jakkal violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching an intersecting roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of- way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. I issued Jakkal a written warning for Failing to StopNield at an intersection causing a collision. Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 were able to be driven away from the scene without further incident.
