SHORELINE EXEMPTION SUBMITTAL
January 23, 2018
Project Name: Riverview Park Bridge Abutment Protection
Project Location: 2901 Maple Valley Highway
Project Size: 200 square feet
Project Description: The park side concrete abutment of the Riverview Park bridge,
installed in late 2015, has eroded in front of the abutment, at the top of the Cedar River
embankment. The erosion can be attributed to rainfall and foot traffic on the earthwork
backfill, which is adjacent to the steep and rocky slope down to the river. The abutment
protection work will include the placement of one cubic yard of compacted crushed
stone at the front of the abutment (approximately four feet by 12 feet), and planting of
51 native plant material to deter foot traffic - Acer circinatum, Mahonia aquifolium,
Polystichum munitum, and Symphoricarpos albus.
This project type is considered to be a normal maintenance or repair of existing
structures or developments.
Work is anticipated to occur between February 15 and April 1, 2018. No other permits
are required for this work.
There are no special features of this site, and its location ranges from approximately
twenty-five feet above and ten feet back from the ordinary high water mark of the
Cedar River. The abutment area is within the Critical Areas plan of the City of Renton’s
COR Maps. No trees will be removed, and there will no increase in the amount of
impervious surfaces.
The bridge abutment and planting area is above the 100 year special flood hazard area
of the Cedar River.
The total construction cost for this project is $3,335.00, including WSST.
