EF18505 CASE# 24-10047 OF COLLISION 09/25/24 13:25 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 24-10047 On 09/25/2024 at approximately 1326 hours, I was dispatched to an unknown-if-injury vehicle collision at the intersection of North 3rd Street and Meadow Avenue North, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival, I confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the time of report. The driver of Unit#2 did inform me of an injury to his right wrist but stated he would make a visit to urgent care at later time for treatment. The driver of Unit#2 did show me the injury which did appear swollen. While on scene, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and traveling northbound on Meadow Ave N and had approached the stop-sign controlled intersecting roadway of N 3rd ST. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she was intending to continue straight across the intersection and continued north. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she stopped at the intersection to yield to approaching traffic. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she believed traffic was clear and began to proceed across the intersection. As Unit#1 entered the intersection, Unit#1 and Unit#2 collided in the roadway causing significant damage to the front driver's wheel well, fender, bumper and wheel bearing of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#2 said he was the sole occupant of a Volvo Bellevue loaner vehicle and was traveling eastbound on N 3rd ST approaching the intersection of Meadow Ave N where Unit#1 was located. The driver of Unit#2 stated he was intending to continue straight on the one-way road through the uncontrolled intersection for his direction of travel. The driver of Unit#2 stated that upon reaching the intersecting driveway, Unit#1 failed to yield to his vehicle at the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 was unable to avoid the collision and subsequently collided into Unit#1 as it crossed his lane of travel. Unit#2 suffered significant damage to the front of Unit#2. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Jones) is the proximate cause for the collision as Jones did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and underway. Jones violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching an intersecting roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. I cited Jones via mail for Failing to Stop/Yield at an intersection causing a collision. Jones qualified for the City of Renton Youth Traffic Court (YTC) and was made aware of the details by providing her and her mother with the YTC business card. Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be towed due to extensive damage. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
