EF17226 CASE# 24-9948 OF COLLISION 09/22/24 16:32 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE RENTON POLICE CASE #: 24-9948 RECORDED ON AXON *This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized. * On 09.22.2024, at approximately 1645 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle, blocking, non-injury collision at the intersection of Nile Ave NE and NE 10th ST, in the City of Renton, WA, the County of King. At the time of this incident, I was assigned to uniformed marked patrol in the City of Renton, WA, the County of King. I was operating a fully marked Renton Police Tahoe #304, equipped with "POLICE" markings, overhead exterior lights, and audible siren. I was wearing my department-issued uniform, including a fully equipped duty belt, exterior ballistic vest with "POLICE" stenciled on the front and back and Renton Police badge affixed to the left breast. I was also wearing my department-issued jumpsuit with "POLICE" patches on both shoulders and across the rear shoulders. It would be immediately obvious to any reasonable person I was a police officer. I was assigned as the graveyard patrol sergeant for the north end of the city, 6r20. At the time of this collision, it was clear and daylight, the streetlights were not illuminated, the roadways were dry and free from debris. It was approximately 71 degrees. I arrived on scene at approximately 1651 hours and spoke with all involved parties. The driver of Unit 01, later identified, was shaken up and crying but stated she was not injured. The driver of Unit 02, later identified, was also shaken up and crying but stated she was not injured. Unit 02 stated her 3 young children were also passengers in the rear of the vehicle at the time of the collision, but they were not injured, and a friend came to the location to take them home. The children were not on scene upon my arrival, and I could not check their status. Unit 02's husband was in the front passenger seat and advised he was not injured. Unit 01 was identified as a white in color Kia Seltos bearing Texas Plate: PPS8407. Unit 01 had moderate damage to the front passenger side wheel and bumper. The vehicle was inoperable, and dispatch was updated and contacted Gene Meyers for a tow. Unit 01's driver was identified by her Texas Driver's License as ATKISON, BRITTANY MARIE (DOB: 08.30.1995). ATKISON matched the photo shown on her Texas DL. ATKISON was visibly shaken up from the collision, was crying and declined aid, stating she wasn't injured. ATKISON was traveling eastbound on NE 10th ST, as she approached the intersection with Nile Ave NE, she believed this was a four-way stop, although it was only posted as a two-way stop for traffic traveling east/westbound on NE 10th ST. ATKISON stopped initially, and then proceeded to cross Nile Ave NE, and struck Unit 02 as they were traveling northbound on Nile Ave NE. A WACIC/NCIC/DOL query on ATKISON returned clear and valid. Unit 02 was identified as a maroon in color Kia Sorento bearing WA/ BUC8628. Unit 02 had moderate damage to the front body of the vehicle, but it was operable. Unit 02's driver was identified by her WADL as BETZ, CANDACE JILL (DOB: 03.24.1981). BETZ matched the photo shown on her WADL. BETZ stated she was traveling northbound on Nile Ave NE, going straight ahead when Unit 01 pulled out directly in front of her vehicle, causing a collision. There are no stop signs posted on Nile Ave NE. A WACIC/NCIC/DOL query on BETZ revealed she was clear and valid. Both involved parties had valid insurance. Unit 01's driver, ATKISON, BRITTANY MARIE (DOB: 08.30.1995) is the causing party in this collision by failing to yield the right of way to Unit 02, causing a collision. ATKISON was issued SECTOR WARNING citation W24055449 for violation of RCW 46.61.180.1: Fail to yield motor vehicle. The following warning will be mailed to ATKISON via the courts. Unit 01 was impounded by Gene Meyers as ATKISON would not sign the tow form.
