HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/26/2024 - Minutes Minutes approved by the LEOFF Board on 11/26/2024 CITY OF RENTON LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS & FIREFIGHTERS DISABILITY BOARD REGULAR MEETING MINUTES September 26, 2024 – 9:00 a.m. Renton City Hall – 1st Floor Training Room #109 or Video Conference (MS Teams meeting) In Attendance: James Alberson Jr., Jim Phelan, Jim Matthew, Ruth Perez, Alex Tuttle, Erika Eddins, and Kinal Ha Not in Attendance: Russ Olson CALL TO ORDER Jim Phelan called the meeting to order at 09:03 a.m. PUBLIC COMMENT: Jim Phelan called for public comments and there were none. APPROVAL OF MINUTES James Alberson Jr. moved to approve the August 27, 2024, meeting minutes and Jim Matthew seconds. Motion carried. APPOINTMENTS None. OLD BUSINESS None. NEW BUSINESS #7408 – Request Board review for additional Long-Term Care/Assisted Living due to change in circumstances. Erika Eddins presented to the board that a retiree is seeking approval for an increase in their monthly reimbursement for Long-Term Care, beyond what was previously approved due to a change in their medical care needs. The retiree has submitted the necessary medical documentation to support the request for the Board's review. The total cost of the care services requested is more than the average range for similar services in the region. Staff presented the geographic region average ranges for similar care, which varied from $5,700 to $7,700 per month. There was discussion about limits in approving long term care expenses. James Alberson asked if anyone could speak to claims to the past. Erika stated that in the last 3 years there have not been approvals that have been beyond the limits of the average geographic region costs. James Alberson Jr. moved to deny the claim request for the requested total amount of $12,331 per month, Ruth Perez seconded. Jim commented that the dollar amount for the extra cost has to deal with transportation to medical care and other specific needs for the member. Erika clarified the retiree has an approved claim from the Board for home care services and it includes LEOFF Board Jim Phelan Member at Large (Chair) Ruth Pérez Council Member James Alberson Jr. Council Member James Matthew Fire and Emergency Services Russ Olson Police transportation to medical care and other care services. It was noted that the care facility does not provide transportation to medical care. Jim Matthew stated precedents have been established based upon current rules related to average costs, and one of the options the Board has is to approve an amount with a limitation. James Alberson Jr. moved to withdraw the motion for denial of the claim, Ruth Perez seconded. Motion withdrawn. Jim Matthew moved to approve the claim request for reimbursement up to $7,700 per month, James Alberson Jr. seconded. Motion carried. COMMENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS None. ADJOURNMENT James Alberson Jr. moved to adjourn the meeting and Jim Matthew seconds. The meeting was adjourned at 09:47 a.m.
