NARRATIVE
On 11/22/2024 at approximately 0815 hours, I was dispatched to a injury and blocking two-vehicle
collision at the intersection of Renton Ave Ext and Taylor Ave NW, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King, State of Washington.
Upon arrival, Renton Fire Authority was tending to the injuries sustained by both drivers involved. I
saw obvious damage to the complete front side of Unit#1. Unit#2 sustained obvious damages to the
entire front side of the vehicle and to the driver's side door.
The driver of Unit#1 said she was driving west on Renton Ave Ext in lane two. The driver said that
the traffic signal was not working and made a complete stop at the intersection. When the white
Chevy Suburban on her right continued straight ahead, she assumed she was the next one to go.
When she drove through the intersection, she saw that Unit#2 was going through the intersection
and collided with the front and driver's side door. She collided with the vehicle causing both vehicles
to spin out and her air bag was deployed.
The driver of Unit#2 said she was driving south on Taylor Ave NW in lane one. She said that she
made a complete stop at the intersection with a white Chevy Suburban stopped to the left of her.
When it was her turn to go, she continued through the intersection. When the white Chevy Suburban
passed by her Unit#1 then drive through the intersection as Unit#2 was still driving through. Unit#1
collided with Unit#2 causing both vehicles to spin out and injuring her.
I spoke with Donita Gentry who was a witness standing at the south side of the intersection and she
advised the following: Unit#2 was stopped at the north side of the intersection and had the right of
way to drive through. As Unit#2 drove through the intersection Gentry observed Unit#1 drove west
on Renton Ave Ext through the intersection. Unit#1 failed to stop and yield to Unit#2 causing the
vehicle to collide with one another.
Based on the above statements, 1 believe that the driver of Unit#1 is at fault for causing the collision
because she failed to make a complete stop and yield to the right of way.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 is the proximate cause for the
cause of collision as the driver did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and
underway. The driver violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching an
intersecting roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting
roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an
immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or
junction of roadways.
Unit#1 and Unit#2 were both transported to Valley Medical Center. Both vehicles were towed by
Gene Meyer's. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
