PARKS COMMISSION
4:30 PM - Tuesday, October 8 ,2024

1. CALL TO ORDER
Chair Al Dieckman called the regular Parks Commission meeting to order at 4:34 p.m.
2. ROLL CALL

3. AUDIENCE / PUBLIC COMMENT - None
4. CONSENT AGENDA
a) Approval of the Agenda
b) Approval of September 10, 2024 Meeting Minutes
Reymann motioned to approve Consent Agenda, motion seconded, all in favor, motion carried.
5. STAFF COMMENT
a) Emerging Issues – Maryjane Van Cleave provided overview of the Parks and Recreation
preliminary budget and re-organization, noting the Mayor and Finance Administrator gave their
budget introduction of the city’s preliminary revenue overview at council on October 7, which is
also available on the city YouTube channel. Van Cleave will be presenting the department’s
budget presentation to the Committee of the Whole on Monday, October 14, along with Public
Works and Police. All the other departments will present on October 21. Staff will forward to the
board the results of the city budget survey and once the budget is approved, the list of the
department’s capital improvement projects list. The board vacancy recommendation is being
routed through council and Community Services Committee for final presentation to council on
October 14. National elections are November 5th, while elections for some city council positions
will be fall 2025.
6. NEW BUSINESS
a) Searing inquired about continued work at Kiwanis. Hunsaker shared its continued underground

pipe repairs. Burn shared thanks for another successful Farmers Market season, Rhemy King’s
partnering with the school district for the last neighborhood picnic, and that Rotary is funding
senior programming at the Family First Community Center. Reymann shared that Jim Baker’s
memorial service will be held at the Renton Community Center and commented on a good show
of salmon in the Cedar River, but not in May Creek.

8. UNFINISHED BUSINESS - none
9. CHAIR COMMENT – Dieckman asked staff to send out a scheduling survey for board availability for
December or first of year board retreat and to include request for retreat agenda topics.
10. ADJOURNMENT - Reymann motioned to adjourn, motion seconded, all in favor, motion passed.
