POND LINER NOTES GENERAL NOTES
1. AFTER EXCAVATION OF POND, INFILTRATION TEST TO BE CONDUCTED BY GEOTECHNICAL
ENGINEER. IF INFILTRATION RATES ARE LESS THAN 0.02 IN/HR, NO LINING WILL BE
REQUIRED. IF INFILTRATION RATES EXCEED 0.02 IN/HR, A LOW PERMEABILITY LINING WILL
BE REQUIRED. LOW PERMEABILITY LINING SHALL PREVENT INFILTRATION GREATER THAN
0.02 IN/HR.
2. IF SOILS INFILTRATE GREATER THAN 0.02 IN/HR, BOTH CELLS TO BE LINED WITH A LOW
PERMEABILITY COMPACTED TILL LINER OR APPROVED EQUAL.
2.1. TILL LINER THICKNESS SHALL BE 18 INCHES AFTER COMPACTION.
2.2. SOIL SHALL BE COMPACTED TO 95% MININIMUM DRY DENSITY, MODIFIED PROCTOR
METHOD (ASTM D-1557).
2.3. SOIL SHOULD BE PLACED IN 6 INCH LIFTS.
2.4. GRADATION PER TABLE.
3. LINER ALTERNATIVES INCLUDE CLAY LINERS, GEOMEMBRANE LINERS, AND CONCRETE
LINERS. LINER TO BE DESIGNED BY GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER AND SHOULD INCLUDE
DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS FOR BUOYANCY OF LOW PERMEABILITY LINER WITH REGARDS
TO POTENTIAL HIGH GROUNDWATER.
