EF44883 CASE# 24-12650 OFC LNaoy L isI©�ON 12/10/24 10:31 F cu NARRATIVE Within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to a single vehicle off the roadway crash near the intersection of NE Sunset Blvd and Sunset Blvd NE. I arrived and could see officers about 25 feet above the roadway surface on the north bank of NE Sunset Blvd. Officers on scene had already walked the driver down the embankment to be checked by Renton Fire. Unit 1 driver/Oakes was later transported to VMC-ER for additional checks. From talking with Oakes who had almost no recollection of the collision he said he may have had a seizure and simply drove his car off the roadway into heavy black berry bushes and up an embankment. He was checked for possible impairment but was later determined he was medical and not impaired. Although Oakes was observed with his seatbelt on it appeared he hit his face on the windshield. There was both signs of intrusion from inside the vehicle to the windshield as well as intrusion from outside the windshield. Oakes had what appeared to be bruising and blood on his face. He vehicle had to be recovered by a large rotor type tow truck. There was not way to drive a tow truck into the more than 45 degree angle bank and the car could not be winched out without risk of losing control of the vehicle sliding back down the bank. Damages to unit 1 did require a smaller tow truck to remove the vehicle from the scene. Information/insurance only.
