EF43969 CASE# 24-11308 DATE AND rIOF COLLISION + 10/31/24 09:00 NARRATIVE On October 31, 2024, dispatch requested that I respond to a collision at 350 Sunset Blvd N, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, and State of Washington. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1 stated that he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and that prior to the collision he was exiting the Miller Paint parking lot, near 350 block of Sunset Blvd N. The driver of Unit 1 had pulled into the exit lane in the parking lot and stopped to yield to traffic. The driver of Unit 1 stated he intended to turn sorthbound Sunset Blvd N. The driver of Unit 1 stated that a vehicle in the number 1 lane had stopped, creating gap to allow him access. He did not see any northbound traffic, so he proceeded to traverse across the northbound lanes of travel. While doing so, he was struck on his driver's side doors while crossing lane 3 of 3. The impact caused severe damage to Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was also traveling northbound in about the 350 block of Sunset Blvd N approaching the entrance of Miller Paint in lane 3 of 3. The driver of Unit 2 stated she intended to continue north. The driver of Unit 2 stated as she continued going straight, the driver of Unit 2 saw Unit 1 turn in front of her vehicle. The driver of Unit 2 stated she was unable to avoid the collision and both vehicles collided causing significant damage to the front of Unit 2. Both drivers sustained injuries to their neck and back. They were transported to Valley Medical Center. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 1 is the proximate cause for the collision due to not granting the right of way during a left turn causing a collision. The driver of Unit 1 violated RCW 46.61.185(1) by being the driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection and not yielding the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. The driver of Unit 1 did not grant the right of way to Unit 2 traveling in the roadway which had the right of way and was already underway. Due to Unit 1 having to traverse across oncoming traffic, the driver of Unit 1 must wait until the intersection is clear of hazard prior to proceeding. Both vehicles became undrivable after the collision, so they were towed away by Banker Towing. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
