EF36935 CASE# 24-61523 DBE OF COL 11/08/2421:53 OF COL NARRATIVE 24-11630 On 11/08/2024 at approximately 2154 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle collision at the intersection of Benson Drive S and S 27th Place, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival, I observed heavy mechanism to the involved vehicles. While on scene, I collected one driver's driving information and recollection of events while Officer Fajarillio collected the other driver's. Officer Fajarillio informed me the driver of Unit#1 stated that he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and that prior to the collision he was traveling northbound on Benson Drive S in about the 2800 block approaching S 27th Place in lane 1. The driver of Unit#1 said he was driving 40mph when a truck turned right in front of him causing him to strike the rear of Unit#2 with the front of his vehicle. The driver of Unit#1 continued north and then pulled off to the side of lane 1. He did not see where the other vehicle had went. He said that he did not change lanes before the collision. The driver of Unit#2 said he was one of two occupants of his vehicle, the other being his wife, and was traveling sorthbound on Benson Drive S. The driver of Unit#2 had pulled into the left-turn lane and stopped to yield to traffic for an upcoming left-turn onto S 27th Place. The driver of Unit#2 said that there was plenty of time and space for him to make his turn before Unit#1 reached him. The driver of Unit#2 stated that Unit#1 was traveling northbound on Benson Drive S in lane 2. The driver of Unit#2 said that as he was making his left turn he was past lane 2 when Unit#1 changed lanes from lane 2 to lane 1 without signaling and increased his speed. He stated that Unit#1 struck his vehicle in the rear and then drove a little further down the road before stopping. The driver of Unit#2 completed his turn onto S 27th Place and came to a stop. The driver of Unit#2 then got out of his vehicle and went to check on the driver of Unit#1 to make sure he was uninjured. Based on the above statements, I am unable to determine who is the proximate cause of this collision. The accounts are conflicting. Unit#1 said he was driving straight doing the speed limit and Unit#2 turned in front of him causing the collision. Unit#2 said that he had plenty of space to turn, had already went past lane 2 when Unit#1 changed lanes without signaling and sped up which caused the collision. Since neither Officer Fajarillio nor I was there when the accident happened and the only other person who saw it was the wife of the driver of Unit#2, there is no other evidence indicating towards either side. Unit#1 had to be towed due to extensive damage by gene Meyer towing. Unit#2 lived nearby and was able to drive away from the scene. The driver of Unit#1 told Officer Fajarillio that he did not have auto insurance while he was being questioned on scene. I issued citation#4AO855043 to the driver of Unit#1 for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Electronically signed by Officer H. Deighan#13030 1:33 AM 11/8/2024 Renton, King County, WA. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
