NARRATIVE
24-4799
On 05/04/2024 at 1130 hours, I was in full patrol uniform and driving a marked Renton Police patrol
vehicle when I was dispatched to S 5th St & Williams Ave S in the city of Renton, County of King,
State of Washington regarding a traffic accident.
Upon arrival I saw Unit2 stopped in the roadway in the eastbound lane on S 5th St just east of
Williams Ave S. I saw significant damage to the right side of Unit2. There was vehicle debris in the
intersection of S 5th St and Williams Ave S. The debris was in the north lane of Williams Ave S in the
intersection. I saw Unitl stopped in the roadway on S 5th St just west of Williams Ave S. Unitl was
facing west. Unitl had significant damage to the front end of the vehicle. The front end of the vehicle
had been torn off and was hanging on the right side of Unit1.
I spoke with Driverl -Kathryn Martin, who was sitting in her vehicle. Driver 1 told me in summary: She
was driving north of Williams Ave S approaching the intersection at S 5th St. As she approached the
stop sign, she stopped her vehicle, looked both ways and proceeded forward (north on Williams Ave
S). Driverl said that Unit2 drove on S 5th St from west to east and collided into her vehicle. Driverl
said she did not see Unit2 at or around the stop sign when she initially stopped at the stop sign on
Williams Ave S. Driverl did not claim injury or pain and declined medical assistance. I did not
observe visible injury upon her.
I spoke with Driver2 -Teje Witcher and she told me in summary: She was driving east on S 5th St
approaching the stop sign at Williams Ave S. She stopped at the stop sign. She saw Unitl driving
north on Williams Ave S toward S 5th St. She saw that Unitl had not driven to the stop sign yet so
she drove east through the intersection. As she did so, Unitl failed to stop at the stop sign and
collided into her (Driver2's) vehicle. Driver2 did not claim injury or pain and declined medical
assistance. I did not observe visible injury upon her.
I did not see video cameras in the area. Driverl added that an unknown female approached her after
the accident and told her that she saw the accident happen. The unknown witness left the scene prior
to my arrival. There were no witnesses that came forward at the scene. Driverl and Driver2's account
of the incident were similar regarding direction of travel but vastly differed regarding their account of
one another driving through the stop sign.
I have nothing further.
This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of events that
occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and
summarized.
