1. SIZE THE BELOW INLET GRATE DEVICE (BIGD) FOR THE STORM
WATER STRUCTURE IT WILL SERVICE.
2. THE BIGD SHALL HAVE A BUILT-IN HIGH -FLOW RELIEF SYSTEM
(OVERFLOW BYPASS).
3. THE RETRIEVAL SYSTEM MUST ALLOW REMOVAL OF THE BIGD
WITHOUT SPILLING THE COLLECTED MATERIAL.
4. PERFORM MAINTENANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD
SPECIFICATION 8-01.3(15).

NOTES:
1. FILTER FABRIC FENCES SHALL BE INSTALLED ALONG CONTOUR WHENEVER POSSIBLE.
2. THE FENCE POST SHALL BE SPACED A MAXIMUM OF 6-FT APART AND DRIVEN SECURELY
INTO THE GROUND (MIN. 1-FT). POST SPACING MAY BE INCREASED TO 8-FT O.C. IF WIRE
BACKING IS USED.
3. THE FILTER FABRIC (CONSTRUCTION GEOTEXTILE FOR TEMPORARY SILT FENCE) SHALL BE
PURCHASED IN A CONTINUOUS ROLL CUT TO LENGTH OF THE BARRIER TO AVOID USE OF
JOINTS. WHEN JOINTS ARE NECESSARY, THE FILTER FABRIC SHALL BE SPLICED TOGETHER
ONLY AT A SUPPORT POST, WITH A MINIMUM 6-INCH OVERLAP, AND BOTH ENDS SECURELY
FASTENED TO THE POST.
4. A TRENCH SHALL BE EXCAVATED, A MINIMUM OF 4-IN WIDE BY 4-IN DEEP, UPSLOPE AND
ADJACENT TO THE POST TO ALLOW THE FILTER FABRIC TO BE BURIED.
5. WHEN STANDARD STRENGTH (LOW SURVIVABILITY) FILTER FABRIC IS USED, A 2-IN BY 2-IN
BY 14-GAUGE WIRE MESH SUPPORT FENCE SHALL BE FASTENED SECURELY TO THE
UPSLOPE SIDE OF THE POST USING HEAVY-DUTY WIRE STAPLES AT LEAST I -INCH LONG,
TIE WIRES, OR HOG RINGS. THE WIRE SHALL EXTEND INTO THE TRENCH A MINIMUM OF
4-IN AND SHALL NOT EXTEND MORE THAT 3-FT ABOVE THE ORIGINAL GROUND.
6. STANDARD STRENGTH FILTER FABRIC SHALL BE STAPLED OR WIRED TO THE POSTS, AND
1-FT 8-IN OF THE FABRIC SHALL BE EXTENDED INTO THE TRENCH. THE FABRIC SHALL
NOT EXTEND MORE THAN 3-FT ABOVE THE ORIGINAL GROUND SURFACE. FILTER FABRIC
SHALL NOT BE STAPLED INTO TREES.
7. THE TRENCH SHALL BE BACKFILLED WITH NATIVE MATERIAL OR 3/4-IN TO 3/2-IN WASHED
GRAVEL.
8. FILTER FABRIC FENCES SHALL BE REMOVED WHEN THEY HAVE SERVED THEIR USEFUL
PURPOSE, BUT NOT BEFORE THE UPSLOPE AREA HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY STABILIZED.
9. PERFORM MAINTENANCE IN ACCORDANCE WITH STANDARD SPECIFICATION 8-01.3(15).
