EE85648 CASE# 24-6027 OF COLLISION 06/07/24 12:23 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 24-6027 On 6/7/2024 at approximately 1225 hours, while working as a commissioned police officer for the City of Renton, I was dispatched to an injury accident that took place at Molasses Creek Condos located at 15150 140TH WAY SE. Initial information was a vehicle verses a motorcyclist. While enroute, dispatch advised the motorcyclist was laying on the sidewalk conscious. Upon arrival, Renton Fire Department was on scene evaluating the drivers. I observed a motorcycle (WA/5J0274) in the center turn lane on Maple Valley Hwy just north of the entrance to Molasses Creek Condos. The motorcycle was on its side with significant damage including the front end completely crushed. The other involved vehicle (WA/BZN9875) was pulled into Molasses Creek Condos and had significant front-end damage including the front left side crushed in and a large scratch across the hood. Neither driver appeared to have obvious injuries. Renton Fire Department medically cleared both drivers and they declined being transported for further evaluation. Officer Tamaivena contacted the driver of the Lexus, identified by WA DOL photo as Linda L Berry (DOB 11/15/1956), and advised me of the following. He said Linda told him she was pulling out of the Molasses Creek Condos and intended to take a left turn onto Maple Valley Hwy. She said she looked left and did not see any vehicles, so she proceeded to drive forward and was halfway across the eastbound traffic lanes when she noticed the motorcyclist and froze, causing the motorcyclist to crash into the front end of her vehicle. I contacted the motorcyclist, identified by WA DOL photos as Henry LS Hirchert (DOB 3/6/1995), who advised me of the following. Henry said he was driving east on Maple Valley Hwy when he saw the other vehicle pull out slowly into his lane, giving him approximately 100-300 feet to react. He told me the vehicle appeared to stall, so he initially tried to steer left to go in front of them but then they continued forward so he attempted to steer right to go behind them and that is when he crashed into the vehicle and went over the hood. Henry said it appeared as if the driver of the vehicle did not know what to do when she saw him. Officer Tamaivena advised he did not observe any indicators that Linda was under the influence of any intoxicating drugs or alcohol. Due to the motorcycle being damaged and inoperable, Gene Meyers Towing responded to the scene and towed the motorcycle. The other vehicle was safely off the roadway and Linda declined having the vehicle towed at the time of the incident. Both Linda and Henry provided their WA DOL identification, registration, and proof of insurance. I took photos of the incident and uploaded them to Axon. I provided all involved parties with the exchange of information and the case number. No further information. My involvement in this case was captured on my department-issued Axon body camera.
