NARRATIVE
U2 SB lane #2 stop for traffic ahead; U1 behind U2; front U1 impacted rear of U2; minor damage to
rear hatch U2 under taillight near HTRAC emblem
On 06-13-2024 at about 0910 hours, I was dispatched to a 911 Hangup in the 200 block of Sunset
Blvd N in the City of Renton, County of King, Washington State. I arrived at about 0913 hours and
located a two vehicle collision in lane #2 (of 4) of south bound Sunset Blvd N. I contacted the drivers
who were standing outside their vehicles and determined there were no injuries as a result of the
collision. The vehicles appeared drivable so I directed the drivers to movie their vehicles into a
parking lot to the west of the roadway.
The driver of Unit 02 was identified by WA DL and admitted to driving the listed vehicle. The driver
said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Unit 02 was in lane #2 when vehicles to
the front stopped in the roadway. Unit 02 came to a stop and then was hit from behind by Unit 01.
There did not appear to be any major damage to Unit 02, but the driver directed my attention to a
small dent in the passenger side of the rear hatch and said the dent was from the collision.
The driver of Unit 01 was identified by WA CDL and admitted to driving the listed vehicle. The driver
said he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision. Unit 01 was in lane #2, behind Unit 02.
The driver of Unit 01 said Unit 02 came to a sudden stop for no reason and there was no damage to
Unit 02. 1 then directed his attention to the dent in the rear hatch of Unit 02.
The proximate cause of the collision was Unit 01 failing to come to a complete stop to prevent
colliding with the rear of Unit 01. RCW 46.61.145 states the driver of a motor vehicle shall not follow
another vehicle more closely than is reasonable and prudent, having due regard for the speed of such
vehicles and the traffic upon and the condition of the highway. Unit 01 was following too closely.
Were it not for the actions of the driver of Unit 01, the collision would not have occurred.
No infractions or citations issued. Report for information.
