EE90924 CASE# 24-6698 OF COLLISION 06/25/24 06:43 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE The driver of vehicle #2 advised he was driving north on 1-405 when he noticed a gray Toyota Camry (vehicle #1) driving behind him was honking at him. The driver of vehicle #2 stated he exited the freeway onto the 300 block of Sunset Blvd N, and this Toyota Camry exited behind him. The driver of vehicle #2 stated the gray Toyota Camry then passed him on the left and quickly merged in front of him, leaving approximately 5-10 feet between the front of his vehicle and the rear of the Toyota Camry. The driver of vehicle #2 advised that immediately after vehicle #1 cut him off by merging right in front of him, vehicle #1 quickly applied their brakes, not leaving enough room or time for vehicle #1 to come to a stop before colliding with the rear end of vehicle #1. The front end of vehicle #2 collided with the rear end of vehicle #1. The driver of vehicle #2 told me that immediately after the collision, he saw in his rear view mirror the driver of vehicle #1 exit his vehicle with an angry look and with his hand in his waistband. The driver of vehicle #2 was concerned the driver of vehicle #1 possibly had a gun, so he did not stop there to exchange information, and kept driving to a safe location to pull over and call police. The driver of vehicle #2 told me that vehicle #1 chased him as he drove away. The driver of vehicle #2 drove to the Safeway parking lot at 4300 NE 4th St, where he pulled over to call police. The driver of vehicle #2 had dash camera video of the collision, which I viewed. This dash camera video was consistent with the story the driver of vehicle #2 provided. The driver of vehicle #1 stated that he exited 1-405 north and merged onto the 300 block of Sunset Blvd N. He then merged to the right, in front of vehicle #2, and thought he gave vehicle #2 plenty of space. The driver of vehicle #1 claimed he did not apply his brakes after merging in front of vehicle #2, and that vehicle #2 just rear ended him. The driver of vehicle #1 advised he called police right after the collision occurred. I then showed the driver of vehicle #1 the dash camera video from vehicle #2. After seeing the video, the driver of vehicle #1 then agreed he did in fact cut off vehicle #2 and immediately applied his brakes to slow for traffic ahead of him, not giving vehicle #2 enough room or time to stop. The driver of vehicle #1 admitted to me that he did not have insurance for his vehicle. Based on the totality of the circumstances, it appeared the driver of vehicle #1 was the proximate cause of this collision. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
