EF66457 CASE# 25-1307 OF COLLISION 02/10/25 08:55 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On February 10, 2025, at approximately 0855 hours, I was dispatched to an unknown-if-injury vehicle collision at the intersection of Maple Valley Hwy and Maplewood PI SE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival, 1 observed heavy mechanism to the involved vehicles with airbag deployment as well as both of the involved parties complaining of pain. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) responded to the scene for evaluation. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events. *It is important to note that the driver of unit 2 had to be extracted from their vehicle. They were transported to Valley Medical for chest and ankle injuries. The driver of Unit 1, identified by her WADL as Maya Thompson, said she was traveling eastbound in about the 3500 block of Maple Valley Hwy and had just passed Maplewood PI SE in lane 2 of 1. Maya believes she fell asleep behind the wheel and veered left onto the westbound lanes. Maya stated that she didn't sleep well. Unit 1 and Unit 2 collided in westbound lane 1 of 2 causing moderate severe damage to the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2, identified by her WADL as Lori Baca, said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling westbound in about the 3500 block of Maple Valley Hwy approaching the intersection of Maplewood PL S in lane 1 of 2. Lori stated she was intending to continue straight when Unit 1 veered into oncoming traffic, and into lane 1 of 2 which Unit 2 was occupying. Lori was ultimately unable to avoid the collision and Unit 1 subsequently collided with Unit 2. Unit 2 suffered severe damage to the front of the vehicle due to the collision. Two independent witnesses, identified as Andrew Fouche and and Serge Luzolo, remained at the scene. Both confirmed the above statements claiming that Unit 1 veered into the westbound lanes into Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 (Maya) was not paying attention to traffic in front of her. Maya violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25 -Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit 1 (Maya) is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. I gave maya a verbal warning for Improper Lane Usage causing a collision. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 required a tow due to extensive damage.
