This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of events that occurred
and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized.
On 12-16-2024 1 was working as a police officer in the city of Renton. At approximately 1823 hours I was
dispatched to the report of a recent hit and run collision in the parking lot of Car Pros, 201 S 7th St, City of
Renton, County of King, WA.This incident was captured on my department issued Axon body camera.
According to the notes in the call, since 1745 a hit and run occurred to the reporting party's parked vehicle.
The victim vehicle (Unit 2)was identified as a white 2016 Nissan Versa Note (WA/BUE5794).The registered
owner and reporting party was identified as Daniel J Yates (DOB: 03-19-1995).
1 contacted Daniel by phone.The following is an account of events according to Daniel. His vehicle was,
unoccupied, parked in the Car Pros parking lot. He was outside on the other side of the building when he
heard a loud thud. He later noticed his bumper was hanging off his vehicle. He though back to when he heard
the thud and remembered a tow truck quickly drive off the lot.
I provided an AXON Community Request link to Daniel. He uploaded surveillance of the collision as well as a
damaged bumper to Unit 2. 1 viewed the surveillance footage. It showed a white tow truck with a long flatbed
(Unit 1)trying to negotiate a turn. Unit 1 took a turn and the end of the flatbed collided with the rear
passenger side quarter panel. I could not see a license plate or company name on the tow truck. Daniel
advised he did not know the company name of the truck nor did he have a suspect description.
Daniel was able to drive his vehicle off the lot. I provided him with a case number.
According to the facts regarding this case,there was not enough information in this case to establish probable
cause for a suspect in this hit and run collision.
