EF22195 CASE# 24-9872 OF COLLISION 09/20/24 15:53 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On September 26, 2024, at approximately 1553 hours, I was dispatched to an injury and blocking vehicle collision at the intersection of Taylor Ave NW and Renton Ave Ext, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) had already respond as a precaution due to airbag deployment. Upon my arrival, 1 confirmed that the passenger of Unit 2 was complaining of neck pain. RRFA had already responded and evaluated the involved parties prior to my arrival. While on scene, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1 said he was traveling eastbound on Renton Ave Ext and was approaching the signal-controlled intersecting roadway of Renton Ave Ext. The driver of Unit 1 stated that he was intending to continue straight at the intersection to proceed onto Airport Way. The driver of Unit 1 stated that he failed to see the traffic light at the intersection. The driver of Unit 1 stated that as he drove through the intersection, Unit 2 suddenly appeared in front of him, so he was unable to bring his vehicle to a complete stop. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 collided in the roadway causing minor damage to the front bumper of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was stopped in the westbound turn lane at the intersection of Renton Ave Ext and Taylor Ave NW. The driver of Unit 2 stated he was intending to make a left turn at the controlled intersection. Once the green arrow flashed, he proceeded forward. The driver of Unit 2 stated that upon reaching the intersecting driveway, Unit 1 failed to yield to his vehicle at the intersection. The driver of Unit 1 was unable to avoid the collision and subsequently collided into Unit 1 causing significant damage to the right passenger side of Unit 2. A witness stopped behind unit 2 collaborated his story and provided me with something similar. The witness stated that unit 2 had received a green arrow. As unit 2 proceeded through the intersection, unit 1 ran the controlled intersection and struck the passenger side of unit 2. Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit 1 is the proximate cause for the cause of collision as the driver did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and underway. The driver violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching an intersecting roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 had to be privately towed due to extensive damage. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
