NARRATIVE
24-10712
On 10/14/2024 at approximately 0828 hours, 1 was dispatched to a non-injury and non-blocking
vehicle collision in the 3900 block of NE Sunset Blvd (JWO Union Ave NE), within the City Limits of
Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, I confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response
at the time of report. There, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent
summary of the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 said she and her juvenile passenger (3 yof) were traveling eastbound in about
the 3900 block of NE Sunset Blvd and approaching the intersection of Union Ave NE in lane 1 of 2.
The driver of Unit#1 stated that due to construction in the area, lane 1 of 2 was closed and that she
needed to get into the left lane (lane 2 of 2). The driver of Unit#1 stated that she activated her turn
signal and believed Unit #2 was providing sufficient space. The driver of Unit#1 stated that she
successfully made the lane change when Unit#2 engaged in "road rage" and proceeded to pass her
in the left lane and "swerved" into her vehicle before passing her. As a result of the collision, Unit#1
suffered moderate damage to the front driver's side fender.
The driver of Unit#2 said he and his adult passenger were also traveling eastbound in about the
3900 block of NE Sunset Blvd approaching the intersection of Union Ave NE but in lane 2 of 2. The
driver of Unit#2 stated that due to construction in the area, he was intending to continue straight
when Unit#1 abruptly approached the location of Unit#2 in the adjacent lane and proceeded to
change lanes from lane 1 of 2 and into lane 2 of 2 which Unit#2 was occupying. Unit#2 suffered
minor damage to the rear passenger wheel due to the collision.
An independent witness, identified as Erick L. Anderson (DOB 08/13/1967), remained at the scene.
Anderson confirmed the above statements made by Unit#2 claiming that Unit#1 was driving at a
high rate of speed prior to Unit #1 changing lanes into Unit#2 in what he described as an "attempted
PIT maneuver".
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit #1 (Myles) is the proximate
cause for the cause of collision as Myles violated RCW 46.61.140(1) which states that a vehicle shall
be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane
until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety. Myles made a lane
change into Unit#2's lane of travel which had the right of way and was underway. Myles did not
ensure that traffic in lane 2 of 2 was clear of hazard before making the unsafe lane change.
Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 were able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of
information was provided to all involved parties.
I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the
foregoing is true and correct.
Electronically signed by Officer M. NUGENT #11498 10/14/2024 6:16 PM Renton, King County,
WA.
