EF71845 CASE# 25-2023 OF COLLISION 03/04/25 12:25 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On March 4, 2025, at approximately 1225 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle collision with reports of injury at the intersection of SE Carr Rd and 105th PI SE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival, I observed heavy mechanism to the involved motorcycle. The rider was complaining of possible broken ribs. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) responded to the scene for evaluation. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1 stated that prior to the collision she was traveling westbound in about the 10500 block of SE Carr RD approaching the intersection of 105th PI SE. The driver of Unit 1 had pulled into the left-turn lane and slowed to yield to oncoming traffic. The driver of Unit 1 stated she intended to turn southbound onto 105th PI SE. The driver stated that eastbound traffic in lane 2 of 2 created an opening for her to traverse across. She proceeded through the opening but did not see Unit 2 traveling in the number 1 eastbound lane. Both vehicles collided in the lane 1 of 1 causing significant damage to the front passenger side fender and front bumper of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2 said he was traveling eastbound in about the 10500 block of SE Carr Rd approaching the intersection of 105th PI SE in lane 1 of 2. The driver of Unit 2 stated he was intending to continue east. The driver of Unit 2 stated as he continued going straight ahead through the intersection, they saw Unit 1 turn in front of his vehicle. The driver of Unit 2 was unable to avoid the collision and both vehicles collided causing significant damage to the front of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 2 was transported via ambulance to Valley Medical Center (VMC) Emergency Room for further evaluation. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 1 is the proximate cause for the collision due to not granting the right of way during a left turn causing a collision. The driver of Unit 1 violated RCW 46.61.185(1) by being the driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection and not yielding the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. The driver of Unit 1 (Smith) did not grant the right of way to Unit 2 traveling in the roadway which had the right of way and was already underway. Due to Unit 1 having to traverse across oncoming traffic, the driver of Unit 1 must wait until the intersection is clear of hazard prior to proceeding. Unit 2 had to be towed due to extensive damage cause. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. No citation. Information only.
