NARRATIVE
On October 29, 2024, at approximately 0720 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with
reports of injury just south of the intersection at 140th Way SE and SE 154th PL, within the City Limits
of Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving
documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit 1 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling northbound in
about the 15400 block of 140th Way SE just north of the intersection of SE 154th Pl. The driver of
Unit 1 stated she was traveling directly behind Unit 2 and saw as Unit 2 had come to a stop for
queued traffic at the upcoming intersection. The driver of Unit 1 stated that she simply was unable to
stop in time and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing moderate damage to the front of
Unit 1.
The driver of Unit 2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was also traveling northbound
in about the 15600 block of Talbot Road South just north of the intersection of SE 154th PI. While
Unit 2 was stopped for queued traffic, Unit 1 collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing minor damage to
the rear of Unit 2.
The driver of Unit 1 was not paying attention to traffic in front of her. Smith violated Renton Municipal
Code (RMC) 10-12-25 -Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on
any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive
manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under
the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the
weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver
focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2)
attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or
traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require.

Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 1 is the proximate cause for the
collision due to inattention causing a collision.
