NARRATIVE
24-11323
On 10/31/2024 at approximately 1355 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and non-blocking
vehicle collision at the intersection of SW Grady Way and Lind Avenue SW, within the City Limits of
Renton, County of King, State of Washington.
Upon my arrival, 1 observed moderate mechanism to the involved vehicles, and I confirmed with both
drivers that there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the time of
report. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their
independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated that he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and that prior to the collision
he was traveling eastbound in about the 500 block of SW Grady Way approaching the controlled
intersection of Lind Ave SW in lane 1 of 3. The driver of Unit#1 stated he intended to continue
eastbound at the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he noticed the controlled intersection
display a yellow light. The driver of Unit#1 believed he could "make the light" and proceeded into the
intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that Unit#2 had entered the same intersection from the
south and that both vehicles collided in the intersection causing significant damage to the passenger
side of Unit#1.
The driver of Unit#2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was traveling northbound in
about the 1100 block of Lind Ave SW approaching the controlled intersection of SW Grady Way in
lane 2 of 4. The driver of Unit#2 stated she was intending to continue north. The driver of Unit#2
stated she had stopped at the light. Upon the traffic light changing to green, Unit#2 proceeded out
into the intersection. Upon entering the intersection, both vehicles collided causing significant
damage to the front of Unit#2.
Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Prieto Cordova) had partially
contributed to the cause of collision. Based on RCW 46.61.055, Prieto Cordova should have stopped
if their vehicle if they believed they could do so, OR, proceed with caution if they believed they could
continue through the intersection without issue. Prieto Cordova continued into the intersection and
said that when he looked at the traffic light immediately following the collision, the light had changed
to red.
Additionally, I believe the driver of Unit#2 (ACORD) also partially contributed to the cause of
collision. Based on RCW 46.61.190, Unit#2 should have "yielded the right-of-way to any vehicle in
the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an immediate hazard
during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or junction of roadways".
Unit#2 should have remained stopped at the intersection until Unit#1 cleared the roadway and was
no longer a hazard to opposing traffic.
There were no independent witnesses or traffic camera footage available for this incident. No citation
was issued to either of the involved drivers. Both involved vehicles had to be impounded due to
extensive damage cause. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
