This creative contest encourages local businesses to decorate their storefront windows, enhancing the vibrant atmosphere of the event while reflecting Renton’s rich culture. OBJECTIVES: • Encourage community involvement and support for the Dragon's Landing event. • Provide businesses with an opportunity to creatively engage customers and attract foot traffic. • Promote local businesses while enhancing the aesthetic of Renton’s downtown area. • Foster a sense of unity and excitement in anticipation of the event. PROGRAM DETAILS Who Can Participate: All businesses within the Downtown Business District are invited to participate. Whether you’re a restaurant, retail shop, or service provider, we encourage you to get creative and showcase your unique take on the Dragon’s Landing theme! Who is Responsible for Decorating: Businesses are responsible for decorating their own windows. Get creative! Involve your team, ask friends for help, or even invite a local arts club or scout troop to take on the challenge with you. If you’d like support from a local artist, we can provide a list of artists who have expressed interest in helping businesses transform their windows. (Note: artists may charge for their services.) Theme: "Dragons, Fantasy & Imagination" – use dragons, mythical creatures, or fantastical scenes to bring your windows to life and capture the event’s spirit. Contest Rules: • Sign-Up: Register by March 20, 2025 (free but required). • Decorating Guidelines: Windows must be visible to the public and can feature painted murals, window clings, 3D props, lighting, and more. Judging Criteria: • Creativity & Originality • Use of the Dragon’s Landing theme • Visual Appeal & Overall Impact • Effort and Attention to Detail Window Decorating Contest for Dragon's Landing Event Judging Process: A panel of judges from the Renton Arts Commission and local community leaders will review all participating windows. Community members will also vote for their favorite displays on social media. Prize Categories: • Enchanted Realm: Most magical and otherworldly display. • Fairy Tale Fantasy: Best fairy tale or magical story theme. • Villager’s Choice Award: Business with the most community votes. • Erasmus’ Choice Award: Overall winner, celebrating the most creative and captivating display in honor of the city’s dragon, Erasmus. Timeline: • Sign-Up Deadline: March 20, 2025 • Decorating Period: March 24 – March 31, 2025 • Judging Period: April 1 – April 13, 2025 (cast your votes by noon on Sunday, April 13) https://forms.gle/wyfr9XKdtFTpMQKSA • Winners Announced: April 13, 2025 (during Dragon's Landing Event) Promotion: • Social Media: Featuring participating businesses and community voting. • Press & Local News: Coverage through local newsletters and the Renton Arts Commission. • People’s Choice Voting: Community members can vote via social media using hashtags #DragonsLandingDecor and #RentonDragons. How to Register: Sign up through the community partner interest form or contact the Arts Commission at Arts@rentonwa.gov. Please include your business name, location, and a brief description of your planned window design.
