EF51406 CASE# 24-11746 O OF COLLI 510N TIME 11/12/24 16:00 COLLISION NARRATIVE On November 12 at approximately 1600 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with reports of injury just west of the intersection at Lind Ave SW and SW Grady Way, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound in about the 500 block of SW Grady Way just west of the intersection of Lind Ave SW. The driver of Unit 1 stated he was traveling ahead of Unit 2 when traffic began to slow down. As he came to a queued stop, unit 2 struck the back of his bumper and rear right wheel. Unit 1 sustained deflated tire and needed to be removed by a private tow company. The driver of Unit 2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and (was facing north) stopped in the middle of the intersection of Lind Ave SW and SW Grady Way. He stated he was waiting for westbound traffic to proceeded so he could complete his left turn. As unit 1 drove through the intersection, the driver of unit 2 stated he was able to complete the left turn. He then followed unit 1. The driver of Unit 2 stated that unit 1 came to a stop and he was unable to stop and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit 1 causing moderate damage to the front of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 2 was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. The driver violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25 -Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 2 is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. An exchange of information was given to both drivers. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
