NARRATIVE
On November 20, 2024, at approximately 1003 hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury and blocking
vehicle collision at the intersection of N 4th St and Park Ave N, within the City Limits of Renton,
County of King, State of Washington.
While on scene, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of
the events leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit 2 said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling southbound on
Park Ave N approaching the intersection of N 3rd St. The driver of Unit 2 stated he was intending to
continue straight at the uncontrolled intersection for his direction of travel. The driver of Unit 2 stated
that signals were not operational, so he treated the intersection as a stop sign intersection. After
waiting for vehicles to cross the intersection, he proceeded south. Upon reaching the intersecting
driveway, Unit 1 failed to yield to his vehicle at the intersection. The driver of Unit 1 was unable to
avoid the collision and subsequently collided into Unit 1 causing significant damage to the passenger
side quarter panel, doors, and fender of Unit 2.
The driver of Unit 1 said she was traveling eastbound on N 3rd St and had approached the
uncontrolled intersecting roadway of Park Ave N. The driver of Unit 1 stated that he was intending to
continue straight, so she could proceed eastbound onto N 3rd ST (one-way road). The driver of Unit 1
stated that he stopped at the intersection (waiting for vehicles to move along). The driver of Unit 1
stated that he believed traffic was clear so she proceeded forward. Both Unit 1 and Unit 2 collided in
the roadway causing significant damage to the front bumper of Unit 1.
After hearing the statements from the two drivers, I am inclined to believe that the collision was
primarily caused by the driver of unit 1. This is based on the vehicle debris located on scene. The
debris were located just east of the west crosswalk the number 1 eastbound lane. From there, the
debris scattered south along the number 1 southbound lane, where unit 2 was traveling.
Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 1 is the proximate cause for the
cause of collision as the driver did not grant the right of way to traffic already in the roadway and
underway. The driver violated RCW 46.61.190(2) as every driver of a vehicle approaching an
intersecting roadway shall stop where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting
roadway before entering the roadway, and after having stopped shall yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle in the intersection or approaching on another roadway so closely as to constitute an
immediate hazard during the time when such driver is moving across or within the intersection or
junction of roadways.
An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties.
