This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized. * On 12.13.2024, at approximately 2235 hours, I was dispatched to a single vehicle collision into a tree in the area of Bremerton Ave NE and NE 6th ST., in the City of Renton, WA, the County of King. At the time of this incident, I was assigned to uniformed marked patrol in the City of Renton, WA, the County of King. I was operating a fully marked Renton Police Tahoe #304, equipped with "POLICE" markings, overhead exterior lights, and audible siren. I was wearing my department-issued uniform, including a fully equipped duty belt, exterior ballistic vest with "POLICE" stenciled on the front and back and Renton Police badge affixed to the left breast. I was also wearing my department-issued jumpsuit with "POLICE" patches on both shoulders and across the rear shoulders. It would be immediately obvious to any reasonable person 1 was a police officer. I was assigned as the graveyard patrol sergeant for the north end of the city, 6r20. At the time of this collision, it was raining and had been raining heavily throughout the day, resulting in water accumulation on the roadways and slicker driving conditions. It was dark, streetlights were illuminated, and the temperature was approximately 43 degrees. At approximately 2235:05 hours, dispatch updated the notes in the call with the following: "1 MVA, INTO TREE .. NB .. LIP PAIN .. DECLINING AID .' I arrived on scene at approximately 2236 hours and met with the registered owner and sole occupant of Unit 01, which was a black in color Land Rover Evoque bearing WA/ BXG3503. The vehicle had extensive front-end damage and intrusion from a large tree that was struck on the NE side of Bremerton and NE 6th ST. A WACIC/NCIC query on the vehicle revealed the registration expired on: 02.03.2022. The driver and registered owner was identified by her US Passport as SAWTELL, ZULETA XQIYA (DOB: 02.25.1988). SAWTELL did not have her license on her person and could not provide proof of insurance. I ran SAWTELL through WACIC/NCIC/DOL and she returned clear and was currently suspended/revoked in the 3rd degree with a driver restriction for financial responsibility. I asked SAWTELL what happened leading up to the collision and she stated she was traveling eastbound on NE 6th ST, was attempting to turn northbound onto Bremerton Ave NE, and stepped on the brake, but says her foot `slipped' off of the brake pedal and stepped on the accelerator, causing her to drive head-on, into a large tree on the east side of Bremerton Ave NE. I did not opt to issue SAWTELL any violations, as there were no other vehicles or property owners involved and her vehicle was heavily damaged. SAWTELL complained of lip pain and was evaluated by the Renton Fire Authority on scene and not transported to the hospital. Nothing further.
