EF54767 CASE# 24-13077 OF COLLISION 12/22/24 20:15 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On December 22, 2024, at approximately 2015 hours, I was dispatched to a hit and run vehicle collision at the intersection at Maple Valley Hwy and 140th Way SE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Dispatch advised that a nearby witness observed a silver SUV strike Unit2, and then flee the location. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was stopped in the left turn (lane 1 of 2). She was on 140th Way SE, facing northbound. While Unit2 was stopped for queued traffic, Unit1 collided with the rear of Unit2 causing severe damage to the rear of Unit2. The driver of Unit2 said she never saw Unit1 and could not identify the vehicle or driver involved. An independent witness stated they observed the collision take place. They stated that Unit1 appeared to be a silver SUV, possibly and "Chevy." Unit1 was going northbound on 140th Way SE and was traveling behind Unit2. As Unit2 came to a stop, Unit1 followed to closely and slid into the back of Unit2. It appeared that the driver attempted to avoid the collision but slid sideways into the back of Unit2, causing heavy damage to the right rear quarter panel of Unit1. After the two vehicles collided, Unit1 fled the scene and was last seen going westbound on Maple Valley Hwy. The witness cannot identify the driver and was unable to collect license plate from Unit1. The driver of Unit1 was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. The driver of Unit1 violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25-Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). The driver of Unit1 also committed attended hit and run as they fled and failed to provide any of required documents after a collision has taken place. Officers did an area check but were unable to locate Unit1. Unit2 sustained heavy damage to the rear of the vehicle, so it needed to be towed away by Bankers Towing.
