EF54768 CASE# 24-13216 OF COLLISION 12/27/24 12:57 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE blk/2 sb lane 2 crossed into grass wht something pit RTF This report will ref two different calls/accounts for one crash. Within the city limits of Renton/King/WA I responded to a 2 vehicle hit and run crash near the intersection of Benson Dr S at SE 172nd St. Ref#RP24070396 I located unit 2 who was able to move his vehicle off the roadway and was stopped on the shoulder of SE 172nd St. I appeared 3 or 4 of his tired were flat. The driver side of his vehicle and wheels were covered on fresh mud/grass. I contacted the driver of unit 2 ID'd by his picture WADL. He told me he was southbound in lane 2 when he was hit from behind by an UNKNOWN vehicle. He lost control of his car, crossed over the northbound lanes of Benson Dr S went over the sidewalk and into the grassy muddy embankment. Luckily he did not hit another car head or the light pole near where he was off the roadway. He did not complain of injury and damages required a tow truck. He made his own arraignments for a tow. He was unable to provide any additional information ref the car that hit him. Ref#RP240070401 Within the city limits of Renton/King/WA I responded to a 2 vehicle hit and run crash near the intersection of Benson Dr S at SE 172nd St. I contacted the driver of unit (now) unit 1 at the old bank of America which is about 1 mile south of the original crash location. Unit 1 told me he was hit by a black 4 door sedan that seemed as if it was out of control. He told me he did not stop immediately for two reasons. He said he was "freaked out" by the crash and that he had 3 young passengers during a sanctioned girl scout event and was worried about his passengers and wanted to get them off loaded and checked for injuries. He did not complain of injury and damages did not require a tow truck. When unit 1 told me the approximate location of the crash I asked him if he could ID the vehicle that crashed into him and he said with certainty. I drove back towards 172/Benson Dr. He was telling me on the way we were getting close to the crash location and when we were about 50-75' north of 172 he said this is about where I was hit. There was debris left in the roadway from both vehicles. Unit 2 who told me he would tow the car himself had not yet moved the vehicle. I did not say anything but U -turned on Benson and turned onto 172. Unit 1 driver immediately said theres the car that hit me. Unit 1 explained that unit 2 hit him going backwards. Meaning unit 1 was in lane 1 southbound while unit 2 was facing northbound but sliding out of control and still headed southbound. Unit 1 said the damage from where unit 2 hit him would be on the back of unit 2. After impact unit 2 spun out across the road and unit 1 continued to B of A. Unit 1 did not call the police until after his passengers had been picked up. I called unit 2 back and told him 1 had a witness that tells a different version of the story and account of the crash. Unit 2 was insisted that he wanted to be cooperative and he even called the police. After a short chat on the phone unit 2 told me he may have been going too fast for wet road conditions and may have spun out, but did not provide much more than that. He said he may have PAGE 3 OF 5 REPORT NO. EF54768 CASE# 24-13216 OF COLLISION 12/27/24 12:57 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE been going 60 in a 40 during the crash. I explained to unit 2 that modifying his story to meet his own narrative to protect his poor driving and causing a crash is illegal. I explained to unit 1 he is required to remain on scene and not drive off. He can get his passengers evaluated on scene by the Fire Dept and transported if needed. Leaving the scene of a collision is illegal unless he met the requirements under RCW 46.52. which he did not. The actual damage to either vehicle was minor and both vehicles would have been able to be driven away, except for unit 2 going too fast and flattening his tires going up and over the sidewalk. Both drivers were insured. Information/Insurance only. I certify (declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct.
