EF54798 CASE# 25-268 OF COLLISION 01/08/25 17:34 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On January 8, 2025, at approximately 1734 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with reports of injury just north of the intersection at Maple Valley Hwy and NB 1405, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and determined that the driver of Unit 2 was complaining of neck pain. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) later arrived on scene and treated the involved driver. RRFA released all involved parties at the scene. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1, identified by his WADL as Tan M. Tran, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling northbound on 1405. Tan took the offramp to Maple Valley Hwy. Tan stated he was traveling directly behind Unit 2 and saw as Unit 2 had come to a stop for queued traffic at the upcoming intersection. The driver of Unit 1 stated that he simply did not see the other vehicle and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing moderate damage to the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2, identified by her WADL as Monserrat Trista-Valdez, said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was also entering Maple Valley Hwy from the 1405 offramp. While Unit 2 was stopped at the stop sign, Unit 1 collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing moderate damage to the rear of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 (Tan) was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. Tan violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25 -Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit 1 Tan is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. Tan should have been paying closer attention to the movement of traffic in front of him. Both involved vehicles were able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORT NO.
