NARRATIVE
On 02/09/2025 at 2016 hours I was dispatched to a blocking collision at the 500 block of S 2nd St in
the City of Renton, King County, Washington.
Pre-collision
Driver 1 stated that she was traveling West on S 2nd St in the number 1 lane, preparing to perform a
lefthand turn onto Morris Ave S.
Driver 2 stated that she was traveling in the number 2 lane Westbound on S 2nd St approaching the
500 block and preparing to continue straight ahead.
S 2nd St is a 1-way street that travels West.
Collision
Driver 1 stated that she activated her left turn signal and began to turn onto Morris Ave S from the
number 1 lane. The number 1 lane is notably an outside lane and should not be used to perform
lefthand turns. Driver 1 stated that when performing the lefthand turn and crossing over lane 2, the
front bumper of Unit 2 struck the front and rear drivers side doors of Unit 1, causing significant
damage.
Driver 2 stated that she was traveling West on S 2nd St approaching Morris Ave S at the 500 block in
the number 2 lane when Unit 1 performed a left turn in front of Unit 2. Driver 2 stated that she did not
have time to stop, and the front passenger side bumper of Unit 2 collided with the front and rear
drivers side doors of Unit 1.
Vehicle dispositions
Both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.
Injuries
Driver 1 complained of shoulder pain and Driver 2 complained of chest pain.
Proximate cause
If Driver 1 had not turned from the outside lane in front of Unit 2, this collision would not have
happened.
Final disposition
Driver 1 was cited for RCW 46.61.290 because the driver of a vehicle intending to turn left shall
approach the turn in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully available to traffic moving in the direction of
travel of the vehicle. Whenever practicable the left turn shall be made to the left of the center of the
intersection and so as to leave the intersection or other location in the extreme left-hand lane lawfully
available to traffic moving in the same direction as the vehicle on the roadway being entered.
