EF67725 CASE# 25-982 O OF COLLI 510N TIME 01/30/25 17:26 COLLISION NARRATIVE On January 30, 2025 at approximately 1726 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle collision with reports of injury at the intersection of NE 4th St and Jericho Ave NE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon my arrival, I observed heavy mechanism to the involved vehicles. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) responded to the scene for evaluation. While on scene, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1, identified by her WADL as Karen Brooks, stated that she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and that prior to the collision she was traveling northbound in about the 400 block of Jericho Ave NE approaching the controlled intersection of NE 4th St. Karen had pulled into the right- turn lane and stopped to yield to traffic at the intersection. Karen intended to turn eastbound onto NE 4th St. The driver of Unit 1 stated that she did not see Unit 2 traveling in the eastbound lanes of NE 4th St. Karen proceeded to make the right turn. While turning, she did not notice Unit 2 approach the same intersection. Karen stated that both vehicles collided in the intersection causing significant damage to the front bumper of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2, identified by his WADL as Edward Yong, said he was accompanied by his two children and was traveling eastbound in about the 5300 block of NE 4th St approaching the controlled intersection of Jericho Ave NE in lane 1 of 2. Edward stated he was intending to continue east. Edward stated as he continued going straight ahead through the intersection, he saw Unit 1 turn and strike his rear right quarter panel of his vehicle. Edward stated he was unable to avoid the collision and both vehicles collided causing significant to the rear right quarter panel, wheel, and rear bumper. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Karen Brooks is the proximate cause for the collision due to not granting the right of way during a right turn causing a collision. Karen violated RCW 46.61.185(1) when she did not grant the right of way to Unit 2 traveling in the roadway which had the right of way and was already underway. 2 independent witnesses confirmed Edwards story. They stated that Edwards had a green traffic signal and stated that Karen failed to yield the right of way. Karen struck unit 1's rear right quarter panel, causing the collision. Both involved vehicles had to be towed due to extensive damage cause. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. PAGE 4 OF 5 REPORT NO.
