Jaime Maxie at Hilltop Heritage sent the following message out to families of students last week:
Hello families,
The City of Renton reached out to us about reports they received regarding traffic backup on Duvall Ave NE prior to and during daily dismissal at Hilltop Heritage. We have taken some
data and confirmed that traffic is close to a standstill for 30 minutes on Duvall from approximately 3:15pm-3:45pm each day. While many school zones slow down during arrival and dismissal
times, we are working in good faith with the City to do what we can as a school community to support our neighbors and those travelling through our neighborhood. As such, we are asking
for your help to keep traffic moving and to decrease the amount of time that traffic is stopped on Duvall.
After spring break, we will implement the following expectations to help decrease the amount of time that traffic is stopped on Duvall Ave NE in the afternoons.
* If you arrive at Hilltop Heritage in a vehicle before 3:15pm, we ask that you please park in the parking lot and walk in to get your student to help decrease the backup onto
Duvall.
* If your student is in 4th or 5th grade, we ask that you arrive as close to 3:35pm as possible. Our younger students are dismissed first with 4th and 5th grade students coming
out last.
o When 4th and 5th grade families arrive first, the line is delayed while waiting for students to arrive outside.
o The sooner we can get the line moving with our younger students, the faster the line will go for all families.
* Please ensure that your window placard is displayed in your front window with your student’s information. These were provided at the beginning of the year and we will supply
them again. Having your student’s information displayed helps staff locate your student faster, ensuring a more efficient pick-up line overall.
Two additional reminders:
* Please do not block driveways on Chelan Avenue.
* Please do not load or unload students from Duvall Ave NE.
