Upon arriving on scene, I saw a red Subaru Crosstreck bearing the WA license plate of (CER9976) with heavy front-end damage, in the middle of the intersection of S 4th PI and Rainier AVE S. Renton Fire Department was called on scene to check on the two occupants of the Subaru Crosstreck due to airbag deployment. Other officers on scene pointed out a secondary vehicle that was half a block south of the intersection and was perpendicular to the flow of traffic. The vehicle, which was a white 2014 Nissan Altima bearing the license plate of (CPW3573), was facing east on a north to south roadway and was unoccupied but left running. King County Sheriffs officers were on scene and stated the 2014 Nissan Altima (CPW3573) was a vehicle they had PC for eluding for and were in a pursuit with, prior to the hit and run. The relating KCSO case number is (C25010838). I spoke to the driver of the Subaru Crosstreck who identified himself CHOU, MU CHEN (DOB 02-07- 1989) and his passenger who identified himself as LIN, ANDREW (DOB 02-23-2005). They stated they were traveling northbound on Rainier Ave S in lane three of three. Once they approached the intersection of Rainier Ave S and S 4th PI, they merged into the westbound turning only lane and proceeded through the intersection as they had a solid green arrow, providing them the right of way to turn. As they were turning, a vehicle in lane three of four in the opposing direction, traveling north to south on Rainier Ave S, blew through its stale red light and was traveling at a high rate of speed. The two vehicles collided in the middle of the intersection. The Subaru Crosstreck was inoperable and therefore towed at the owner's expense by BANKERS towing. Chou stated that although he did not have access to it currently, he had a running dashboard camera at the time of the collision. I provided Chou with a community AXON link that he will be uploading his footage to when it becomes available. My involvement in this case was captured on my department-issued Axon body camera. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized.
