EF71834 CASE# 25-2032 OF DATE AND r�N + 03/04/25 15:08 O�COLLISION NARRATIVE blk/1 bik/2 gray/3 blu/4 CC On 3/4/2025 at about 1508 hours within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to a 4 vehicle blocking crash at about the 200 block of SW Grady Way. I was only a few blocks away and arrived within a few minutes. I located 3 of the 4 cars blocking lane 2 eastbound SW Grady Way. I appeared the 3 remaining drivers were all standing outside their cars. Two of the three complained of injury and I immediately requested Renton Fire. I contacted the driver of unit 2 who told me she was stopped for traffic when she was suddenly hit from behind by unit 1. She was able to take a picture of unit 1 license plate and described the driver as a black male adult. She said as he drove off she could see the fresh front end damage and he looking at her and he drove away with purpose/rapidly. She said it was clear that he was fleeing the crash. Unit 2 was hit so hard by unit 1 that it forced her car into unit 3. This caused unit 2 and unit 3 so stuck that Fire had to use extrication tools to separate the vehicles. Even the tow truck was unable to pull unit 2 and 3 apart. Unit 2 did complain of injury and was treated on scene by Renton Fire. The damages to her vehicle required a tow truck. I contacted the driver of unit 3 who told me he was stopped in traffic when he was hit by unit 2 as a result of unit 1. The force of impact was enough that it pushed him forward into unit 4. He did not complain of injury and damages did not require a tow truck. I contacted the driver of unit 4 who told me she was stopped in traffic when she was hit by unit 3 as a result of unit 1. Although damage was slight to the front of unit 3 and back of unit 4 she did complain of injury. She was treated and released on scene by Renton Fire. Her vehicle was not towed for damages. While on scene I learned from the picture provided by unit 2 the suspect vehicle/unit 1 was a rental vehicle Oregon license 639PUV. This returned to a 24 VW Jetta, which matched the picture-newer VW Jetta. I called the "police" phone number for Enterprise/EN Holdings. I provided an Email to verify I was actively working a case involving one of their rental cars as a suspect vehicle in a 4 car injury hit and run. I spoke with the EN Holding CSA Darek Eduardo. He provided me with the contract rental agreement customer, Christopher Hicks 12-30-1971 with a phone number 206-919- 9894. 1 called the phone number provided by EN Holdings. The person answered the phone "This is Chris". responded Chris Hicks and the person said Yes, "How can I help you". I asked him if he would provide his version of the story reference the crash. He denied being in a crash. I asked him if he had rented a 2024 VW Jetta from Enterprise and he said yes. I asked him if he rented it himself and if he did, has anyone else had control of his rented vehicle. He told me he rented the vehicle and no one else has had control of it or has been driving it. He told me he is driving it right now during the time of the call. He told me he was southbound on SR167. I told him that a black adult male driving his rental was identified as the causing driving/suspect in this 4 vehicle hit and run with injury. He told me he was pulling over which he did and confirmed there is fresh damage to his vehicle. He told me he did not have damage on the car prior bu emphatically denied being in a crash. I told him time and location along with a picture of his car he in control of and driving leaving the scene of the crash makes sense. While I was on the phone with him another Renton Officer saw Hicks and his vehicle stopped on the median of SB SR167 on the line dividing Renton and Kent. He was observed fleeing east from the crash which would have lead him towards 167. He told me its his car and it has fresh PAGE 3 OF 6 REPORT NO. I wondered if the car quit running while he was fleeing based on my observations at the crash scene and that unit 2 and 3 had to be separated by Renton Fire with extrication tools. Based on unit 2 describing unit 1/Chris Hicks and her picture of his car fleeing the crash scene. Hicks confirming he had control of his vehicle since the rental and it now has fresh damage. That he was currently driving it and was close to the scene I believe he was the causing driver and committed hit and run ref RCW 46.52.020. Also he committed Inattentive driving ref RMC 10-12-25. 1 cited Hicks reference the above listed RMC and RCW via the prosecutors office. Later in the day Hicks mistakenly called my work cell phone and thought he was calling Enterprise. When I told him it was the police did he want to.........he hung up on me.
