EF81590 CASE# 25-2976 OF COLLISION 04/02/25 15:39 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On 04/02/2025 at approximately 1539 hours, I was dispatched to a two-vehicle collision with reports of injury just north of the intersection at 901 Sunset Blvd NE, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit 1, identified as Saymon N. Hailemariam, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling southbound in about the 950 block of Sunset Blvd NE just north of NE 9th St. The driver of Unit 1 stated he was traveling directly behind Unit 2 and saw as Unit 2 had come to a stop for another vehicle make a left turn onto Ne 9th St. Saymon stated that he simply was unable to stop in time and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing moderate damage to the front of Unit 1. The driver of Unit 2, Paul Johnson, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was also traveling southbound in about the 950 block of Sunset Blvd NE just north of NE 9th St. While Unit 2 was stopped for another vehicle to make a left turn, Unit 1 collided with the rear of Unit 2 causing minor damage to the rear of Unit 2. The driver of Unit 1 (Saymon) was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. Saymon violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25-Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit 1 (Saymon) is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. He should have been paying closer attention to the movement of traffic in front of him. Both involved vehicles were able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. No citations were given. This is an information report only.
