• The Renton History Museum will be hosting Congressman Adam Smith’s 2025
Congressional Art Competition Reception, Saturday, May 3 from 11 a.m.-12 p.m.
The Museum is located at 235 Mill Avenue South near Fire Station 11.
• Police Youth Academy applications are now available. The Academy is a
collaborative effort between the Renton Police Department, King County Sheriff’s
Office, Newcastle Police Department and the DEA. The four-day program held July
14-17 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. is an opportunity that allows middle school aged
students to explore a variety of topics including law enforcement, firefighting, and
emergency response while developing leadership skills, teamwork, and self-

• The Renton Police Department is seeking diverse voices to discuss major
incidents, policies, and community policing strategies. Members meet every other
month and gain exclusive behind-the-scenes experiences. Applications may be
found by visiting https://rentonwa.gov/chiefscouncil and are open to those who
live, work, or have a strong connection to Renton (such as through a school or
faith-based organization). Terms are a two-year commitment.
• The city’s Recreation Division is excited to launch the May to August Let’s Go
Guide. Whether you are looking to dive into a new activity, freshen up your fitness
goals, or find engaging youth programs, this guide has something for everyone. For

• The Community and Economic Development Department and Renton Municipal
Arts Commission have kicked off the “Paint with a Purpose” program. Artists
interested in being part of the program and public agencies, businesses, and
property owners located within the city limits are encouraged to apply. For more

• Compost and Amendments the Natural Way, the first of three free gardening
classes, will be held Wednesday, May 7 at the Renton Community Center (1715
Maple Valley Hwy.) from 6-7:30 p.m. Explore how to best use compost,
amendments, and so-called garden “waste” to meet the nutritional needs of your
soil and plants. Classes are sponsored by a partnership between the Public
Works Department, Parks & Recreation Department, and Saving Water

• Information about preventative street maintenance, traffic impact projects, and
road closures happening this week can be found at http://rentonwa.gov/traffic. All
projects are weather permitting and unless otherwise noted, streets will always
remain open.
Thursday, May 1 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Lane reduction eastbound South Grady Way near
City Hall to accommodate the Parks and Recreation Department’s Forestry Program to
conduct maintenance work on a few Ash trees. Traffic control will be in place but some
congestion is anticipated and access to the north entrance to the parking structure may
be temporarily blocked.
Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 2, 8:00am-3:00pm. Burnett Ave S will be closed
to thru traffic from S 2nd St to Tobin Ave S. Approved traffic control plans were issued
and will be followed, including a detour with flaggers on onsite to assist local traffic.

Rainier Ave N between S 3rd St and NW 3rd Pl for construction work. Approved traffic
control plans were issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed

Monday, April 28 through Friday, May 2, 8:00am-3:00pm. Shifting lane closures both
east and west on NE Sunset Blvd between Redmond Pl NE to Union Ave NE for utility
installation and frontage improvements. Approved traffic control plans were issued for

on Williams Ave S and S Tobin St for construction work. Approved traffic control plans

On-going Street Closure January 21 through May 22, 2025 (City of Renton
Resolution No. 4545). FULL STREET CLOSURE on Houser Way N between Lake
Washington Blvd N and Lowe’s Business Access Road in support of WSDOT I-405
Renton to Bellevue Widening and Express Toll Lane project. Approved traffic control
plans were issued for all work and will be followed. Questions may be directed to Justin
