NARRATIVE
CC 25-3155
On 4/8/2025 at 0748 hours I was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of S Grady
Way and Lake Ave S in the City of Renton, King County, Washington.
Pre-Collision
Driver 2 stated that he was traveling West on S Grady Way in the #1 lane approaching Lake Ave S.
Driver 2 stated that he had a green light.
Driver 1 stated that he was facing East on S Grady Way in the #3 lane preparing to perform a Iefthand
turn.
Collision
Driver 2 stated that as he entered the intersection, Unit 1 turned in front of Unit 2. Driver 2 stated that
he applied his brakes but was unable to stop to avoid a collision. Driver 2 stated that the front bumper
of Unit 2 struck the rear passenger side quarter panel of Unit 1.
Driver 1 stated that it appeared that traffic was stopped to allow him to turn left to proceed North on
Lake Ave S from S Grady Way. Driver 1 said that he began to perform the Iefthand turn and did not
see Unit 2 in the #1 lane as it was blocked by stopped traffic. Driver 1 stated that the front bumper of
Unit 2 struck the rear passenger side quarter panel of Unit 1.
Injuries
Driver 2 immediately complained of hip pain upon my arrival. Renton Fire Authority was dispatched to
the scene and Driver 2 was transported to Valley Medical Center. Driver 1 did not complain of pain
until his wife arrived on scene later into my contact with him. Once his wife arrived on scene, they
spoke, and he requested to be seen by Renton Fire Authority with a chief complaint of dizziness.
Driver 1 was cleared and was not medically transported.
Vehicle Disposition
Unit 1 and 2 were both rendered inoperable and were towed from the scene via private tows.
Proximate Cause
I determined that Driver 1 is a proximate cause for this collision because he failed to yield to the right
of way of another vehicle. If Driver 1 had yielded, this collision would not have happened.
Final Disposition
Driver 1 was cited with RCW 46.61.185 because the driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left
within an intersection or into an alley, private road, or driveway shall yield the right-of-way to any
vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as
to constitute an immediate hazard.
