NARRATIVE
On 03/20/2025, 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked police car as 3R14. At approximately
2318 hours, officers were dispatched to an accident with injuries at 2705 Benson Rd S, which is
located within the city limits of Renton, County of King, Washington. Dispatch advised that a caller
had reported a vehicle had crashed into a fence and was now crashed out down the hill at the
location.
When I arrived at the dispatched location, I located and identified Unit 1 as described above. The call
notes initially mentioned 2 occupants inside Unit 1, but later I identified that Unit 1 was occupied only
by the driver/owner as listed above.
I was able to speak to the driver of Unit 1. My conversation with him is summarized as follows:
Unit 1 stated he was headed northbound on Benson Rd S approaching the 2700/2800 block. Unit 1
admitted he was going approximately 60 MPH northbound on the roadway. Unit 1 stated he lost
control of his vehicle as he attempted to negotiate the curve in the roadway. The driver of Unit 1 then
described he had driven through the nearby fences before his vehicle came to rest in the driveway
between 2705 and 2625 Benson Rd S.
It should be noted that Unit 1 was very agitated and angry. He was unable to provide specifics on
what he had hit as a result of the crash. Unit 1 was angrily speaking to someone on the phone and
had verbally argued with me periodically when I asked him for more details about the accident and his
required documentation (insurance/registration/license). Unit 1 was eventually able to provide me
with his registration and license but was unable to provide his proof of insurance at the time of the
collision. Unit 1 did state he had insurance.
I took a look at Unit 1 and noticed that the entirety of the car was severely damaged. I saw that along
the driver's side door panels, there was a large cut that extended along both the front and back
driver's side doors. I also saw that most of the windows were broken as a result of the collision. I also
saw that the front passenger tire had broken off. Some large dents and scratches ran along the
entirety of the exterior of Unit 1. 1 also saw that a combination of airbags had been deployed inside
Unit 1.
Unit 1's driver stated he was uninjured. I looked at Unit 1 and saw he had a bunch of scrapes and
bruises along his hands and near his face area. I had attempted multiple times to try and verbally
persuade the driver of Unit 1 to be seen by the fire department to no avail. Unit 1 adamantly refused
to be evaluated at the scene of the collision. Unit 1 did state he was wearing his seatbelt during the
collision. Unit 1 was also otherwise alert, conscious, and walking around.
I had delegated other officers to speak to the property owners nearby to collect contact information
and details about damage to their property. Other officers had relayed the following to me:
Residence: 16415 Benson Rd S, Renton:
Damage to a parked unoccupied vehicle from the debris of the collision resulted in a shattered
driver's side front window.
Involved vehicle: Maroon 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 (WA/C47494B, VIN/1 D7HU18NX4J217882).
Owner: Danny L. Waldrep (DOB: 07/30/1987).
Property Damage (City of Renton): Damage to a nearby guardrail that runs along the
northeastern most perimeter of 16415 Benson Rd S. Partially knocked down. Renton PD front counter
notified.
Residence: 2705 Benson Rd S, Renton:
Damage to the wooden fence along the east and north sides of the residence. Broken and knocked
down.

Damage to the wooden fence along the south side of the residence. Broken and knocked down.

I had done a walk around the collision location. It should be noted that at the time of this collision, the
conditions were slick, dark, and rainy. The roadway also bends at a decline as you head northbound
around the 2700/2800 block of Benson Rd S. There was debris all over the roadway that stretches
north along the southbound lanes of travel along Benson Rd S from 16415, 2705, and 2625.
Other officers also informed me that one of the involved property owners had video capturing part of
the collision. They had sent the property owner an Evidence.com link to upload the footage.
Based on the fact that the driver of Unit 1 admitted to traveling approximately 60 MPH had he
traveled northbound on Benson Rd S; the fact that the conditions of the roadway around where the
collision occurred were slick, dark, and rainy; and the fact that based on Unit 1's driving in these
conditions at his approximate speed resulted in a collision with significant property damage, I found
reasonable cause to cite the driver for RCW 46.61.400-Speeds too fast for condition.
I forwarded a citation to the prosecuting attorneys office to mail the citation to the driver of Unit 1
(Reference SECTOR infraction: 5A0115105).
Associated photos were taken at the location by other officers and uploaded to Evidence.com to be
added to the case file.
Bankers tow eventually arrived and was able to tow the vehicle to their impound lot.
Unit 1's driver was provided with a Renton PD business card with the associated case number for his
records. He eventually left the location with some friends who had picked him up.
Based on the above circumstances, I found that Unit 1 was the proximate cause of the collision.
This concludes my report.
