Unless otherwise noted,the following occurred within the city limits of Renton, county of King, state of
Washington.
On 04/30/2025, 1 was working as a uniformed police officer for the city of Renton.At approximately 0116
hours, I was responded to assist Sergeant Thielman at the scene of a motor vehicle collision in about the 500
block of Kirkland Ave NE. Portions of my involvement in the incident were captured on my department-issued
bodycam.
Sergeant Thielman had been following the vehicle for some time while trying to figure out if it was associated
with a recent homicide.The vehicle, a silver 2001 Ford Crown Victoria (WA lic/BVU9510,VIN/
2FAFP73W71X194100),was located on the east end of the road,facing south.
I was the second unit on scene. Due to the vehicle's possible connection to a homicide suspect,the decision
was made to deploy a drone to clear it before sending any officers up to it. I deployed my department-issued
DA Mini 3 and placed it right over the hood of the vehicle.As I angled the gimbal inside, it did not appear as
though the vehicle was occupied. I assisted officers in officially confirming the vehicle as unoccupied.
After contacting on-call detectives, Sergeant Thielman advised me that the vehicle would be going to the
Renton Police Evidence Garage. Gene Meyer Towing later arrived and attached the vehicle. I then followed the
vehicle to the evidence garage, keeping it in sight the entire duration of the drive. Nothing or no one got in or
out of the vehicle during this time. When I arrived, I placed evidence tape over the vehicle and initialed each
piece. I then secured the garage and evidence yard. I created a label for the vehicle on Evidence OnQ.
If a suspect in this case can be positively identified,there is probable cause for the crime of hit-and-run (RCW
46.52.010).The suspect in this case did not take reasonable steps to locate and notify the owner or person in
charge of the damaged property prior to leaving the scene of the collision.
