g. Material testing. Compaction testing is not passing on the
asphalt planning/pulverized HMA. Tani has sent email to MTC
to see if that proctor is bad. Proof roll for compaction on
recycled HMA backfill acceptable.

options of sending back to manufacturer, putting on other side
of catch basin, tying into storm main, or boring into side.
Parametrix to look at options.
i. Water meter for property on SE corner...need to find a way to
tap in. Currently tapped off 8 inch main. Abdoul's crew will tap
to 16 inch main. Parametrix to verify if utility easement
exists...if not, Abdoul will find a location within ROW.
j. Notification to school went well...less kids trying to cross.
k. Wage rates up to date.
I. No complaints from Albertson's and Starbucks.
m. Tree fell in windstorm. Potential conflict with contractor ditch
work. Dustin to send price for hauling away.
n. Can we make multiple tree cut a bit better?Dustin will look for
opportunities to whittle away.
10.Environmental Compliance Report- All looked good on Ross's
Sunday visit...some silt fence issue that Jordan will send communication
about.

Proof rolls are great if accepted by the design team and the municipality. I feel they are more telling than a
Densometer and far more comprehensive in area tested. That would have been my suggestion as well. Robert is

Robert and Deane—I have heard that we aren't able to get a passing nuc gauge reading on the planing
tailings/pulverized HMA trench backfill,even though the backfill appears to well compacted and extra compaction leads
to no change in the readings. We could consider accepting the compaction effort via proof roll, if the City agrees. Any
other thoughts on MTC's end?

Robert will we be able to get a proctor on the sample of planing tailings that MTC picked up last week? If so,will MTC be
able to use the Nuc gauge just as usual to get a density test? Deane called to let me know that the moisture content will
read high due to the asphalt content in the tailings.

Tani,
I used Planning Tailings before in the trench and as a roadway base.The weight of the material is high in
weight so very important not to contaminate it with lighter weight material.
Also, make sure the grinder machine runs at mid-range to make sure the grindings are small and uniform and
watch out for oversize material if you push the grinder to fast.
Slow and consistent is important to get uniform tailings.

Hi Robert—the City of Renton is interested in allowing the Contractor to used planing tailings from their HMA planing
operation for trench backfill on the Duvall Ave project. I understand that you guys picked up a sample. Is it possible to
get a proctor of material like this? Do you use a nuc gage to test to see if it is meeting 95%compaction? Let us know.
