EF89253 CASE# 25-3662 OF DATE AND r�N + 04/24/25 16:25 O�COLLISION NARRATIVE slv/nb gry eb lane 2 both said green light CC Within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to 2 vehicle blocking crash at the intersection of S Carr Rd at Smithers Ave S. One vehicle was blocking lane one about 100 feet east of the intersection and one was facing sideways at the intersection blocking eastbound lane 1 and part of lane 2. 1 contacted the driver of unit 1 who told me she was preparing to make a left turn from Smithers onto S Carr Rd on her green light and was waiting for acknowledgement from the car of the north side of the intersection to do the same. She said as both her and the other car preparing to make the left were proceeding unit 2 ran a red light and crashed into unit 1. She was out of the car because she did not know airbags had a powdery substance on them and thought her car was on fire. She was treated on scene by Renton Fire and later transported to VMC-ER for additional checks and treatment. Damages to her vehicle did require a tow truck. I contacted the driver of unit 2 ID'd by picture WADL. He told me he was in lane 1 eastbound on his green light and said unit 1 drove out in from of him on her red. He told me he was unable to avoid contact with unit 1. Since he was driving a Tesla I asked him to recover the automatic video recordings that Tesla does so I could review the footage to assist in discovering who had the green vs red light. He told me his Tesla does not have that capability and that he could not help provide additional information. He told me he recently moved to Washington St and this was the 3rd crash he had been in, that Washington Drivers are horrible. From looking at the crash scene and location of the vehicles it appeared the crash took place in eastbound lane 2. Another Renton Officer provided me a witness name and number. 1 called her who told me she was the other driver waiting to turn left along with unit 1. She told me that her light was green and she was making sure that her and unit 1 were on the same page to make the left turn together. She said she thought that unit 2 ran the read light because it was clearly green for her and she assumed unit 2 light was green as well. I stayed at the intersection and watched the lights in all direction. The north/south lights only signalled in sequence. They did not change independent of each other. I also know there is a triple fail safe system that controls the electronic traffic control lights and will not allow opposing lights to be green at the same time. I cited unit 2 ref RCW 46.61.055 FTCWTCD-Red light 2 vehicle injury crash vai complaint.
