Narrative
Unless otherwise noted, all events took place in the City of Renton, in the County of King, in the State of
Washington.
This incident was captured on my body worn video camera and in-car cameras.This report is a summary of
events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events.
On 5/7/2025, at approximately 0412 hours I was dispatched to a report of a 2-motor vehicle collision at Royal
Orchid located at 104 Rainier Ave S. Dispatch advised 2 motor vehicle collision and they are requesting police
response to assist with exchange of info.
At approximately 0414 hours I arrived on scene. I asked both drivers if they were injured and they both stated
they were unharmed. I asked both drivers to retrieve their license, registration and insurance and they
complied.
I spoke with the driver of Unit 1 and he advised the following information. He was driving in lane 1 of 2
northbound on Rainier Ave S just past the intersection of S 3rd St. Unit 2 was driving directly in front of
him in lane 1 of 2 northbound on Rainier Ave S.The driver of Unit 2, a semi-truck,was driving slowly so he
merged into lane 2 of 2 to pass it.As he was driving next to the Unit 2, Unit 2 tried to merge into lane 2 of 2
causing Unit 1 to swerve into the southbound lanes of Rainier Ave S. Due to oncoming traffic he had to
swerve to the right causing him to hit the driver side of the Unit 2 Semi Trailer with the passenger side of
Unit 1.The vehicle was drivable and the airbags did not deploy.
I spoke with the driver of Unit 2 and he relayed the following information. He was driving in lane 1 of 2
northbound on Rainier Ave S just past the intersection of S 3rd St. Unit 1 was driving directly behind him
in lane 1 of 2 northbound on Rainier Ave S. He was approaching his destination which was on the west
side of Rainer Ave S so he put his left turn signal on checked his mirror and saw there was no car to his
Left. He began to merge into Lane 2 of 2.As he was merging into lane 2 of 2 he saw Unit 1 drive into the
southbound lanes of Rainier Ave S, unprovoked, in an attempt to pass Unit 2.There was oncoming traffic
so Unit 1 swerved right and hit the driver side of the Unit 2 Semi Trailer with the passenger side of Unit 1.
There was no visible damage to Unit 2.
Both parties exchanged information.
