Introduction
I was contacted by Bernardo Ramirez, a tree care contractor, who has clients owning the
property at 3512 NE 10th Ct. in Renton, WA. The homeowner and the neighbor are concerned
about hazards associated with the location of mature trees growing on the property line. A site
visit was arranged for Sunday, February 23 at 11am.
Summary
-Request to remove Trees # 1, #2, #3 to prevent further damage to the neighboring property to
the E. Mitigation options would likely reduce vigor and overall stability.
Observations

#
Common name Genus species DSH Canopy spread

Condition Status
1 Douglas Fir Pseudotsuga menziesii 28.1” 30’ Good Remove
2 Douglas Fir Pseudotsuga menziesii 24.5” 26’ Good Remove
3 Douglas Fir Pseudotsuga menziesii 22.5” 24’ Good Remove
4 Austrian Pine Pinus nigra 25.1” 22’ Good Retain
Four significant trees, being 6” or greater in diameter, are recorded on the property. Three of
which are considered landmark trees, being 24” or greater in diameter. The remaining
vegetation on the property is small diameter ornamental shrubs and areas of grass turf.
-Trees #1, #2, #3 are proposed for removal due to growing near the property line and the
impact to the neighboring property. The trees have a healthy upper canopy with large buttress
roots and surface roots. A small number of roots on the neighboring property have been
previously cut to maintain path to the backyard. The large roots are within close proximity of
the gas line to the neighboring property. The combined root mass is at the beginning of causing
major damage to the neighboring properties house foundation and has broken the asphalt on
the neighboring driveway.
-Tree #4 is proposed for retention. This tree has a healthy appearance and the location is
excellent for retention.
Discussion
-Trees #1, #2, #3 are located close to the property line and the neighboring property. The trees
are at the beginning stages of causing major damage to the neighboring house foundation. The
mitigation option of root pruning to prevent foundation, gas line, and driveway damage would
be at too close a distance to the trees trunk, and will likely reduce vigor and overall stability.
