4.1 GENERAL.
M KL El NFELDER
The following paragraphs present our design recommendations for use by your consultants on
this project- For satisfactory and successful construction of this project, these recommendations
must be applied in their entiret} and in conjunction with the construction recommendations
provided in Section 5.0.
4.2 SITE PREPARATION .AND EARTHWORK
4.2.1 Demolition
The existing asphaltic concrete pavement at the site should I•' demolished. The resulting debris
should be removed from the site and disposed of properly. The asphaltic concrete pavement,
however, can be crushed and used in on -site planter areas.
4.2.2 F—rcavation
Eccavation. The fill material beneath the proposed asphaltic concrete and Portland cement
concrete parking and drive area subgrade should be overexcavated by 1 foot and replaced with
structural fill.
Proofrolling and Overexcavation: After general site excavation has been completed the exposed
soil should be either proofrolled or hand probed to identify soft or unstable areas. Soft soils
encountered during proofrolling or probing should be overexcavated. O erexcavation depth may
be limited to 2 feet below the general excavation and should extend beyond the footing a
distance equal to the depth of the excavation below planned subgrace elevation. `
Structural Fill: Soil materials used to establish grade beneath structural elements such as floor
slabs should consist of on -site soil or imported select material. Import select fill material is
defined in Section 5.0. Structural fill should be compacted to the following minimum relative
compaction (compaction as determined by ASTVI D1557):
