requirements of Section 9-03.6 Aggregates for Asphalt Treated Base of the Standard
Specifications.
Asphalt Concrete Pavement should consist of one or more courses of plant mined asphalt
concrete composed of asphalt and aggregate, with or without mineral filler, mixed in proportions
to provide a homogeneous, stable and workable mixture. It should meet the requirements of
Section 9-03.5 Aggregates for Asphalt Concrete, for Class B materials, in the Standard
Specifications.
Paring Asphalt should consist of AR40000NV grade asphalt meeting the requirements of Section
9-02.1(4) Paving Asphalt in the Standard Specifications.
5.4.2 Subgrade Preparation
After satisfactory installation and compaction of utility trench backfills in areas to be paved,
subgrade soils should be moisture conditioned and compacted to provide a firm, smooth,
unyielding surface. After compaction, the subgrade should be kept moist to prevent it from
drying out and cracking before placement of the Crushed Rock or Asphalt Treated Base
Materials.
5.4.3 Placement and Compaction of Crushed Rock Base (CRB) Llate 31
After satisfactory completion of subgrade preparation, tke Crushed Rock Base should be placed
in a manner to prevent segregation and should be compacted with vibratory compaction
equipment to provide a tight interlock between aggregt = particles.
5.4.4 Place:.:ent and Compaction of,4sphalt-Treated Base (4TB) .Material
After satisfactory compaction of the pavement subgrade to the lines and grades shown on the
plans and described in the specifications, the contractor should be responsible for treating the
subgrade in preparation for placement of ATB On completion of the preparatory treatment, the
contractor should be responsible for placing and compacting the ATB in such a manner as to pro-
-- vide a thoroughly compacted, homogeneous base on which to construct an asphalt pavement.
Subgrade preparation and placement and compaction of ATB should be performed in accordance
with the requirements of Section 4-06, Asphalt Treated Base of the Standard Specifications.
