Upon my arrival, I collected each of the involved party's driving information and their independent recollection of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1, identified as Ping Yuan, stated that she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and that prior to the collision she was traveling westbound on Renton Ave Ext. and approaching the controlled intersection of Taylor Ave SW in the left turn lane. Ping had pulled into the left-turn lane and slowed to yield to traffic for an upcoming left-turn at the intersection. Ping stated she intended to turn southbound onto Hardie Ave SW. Ping stated that she made a left turn, not seeing Unit#2 traveling in the eastbound lanes of Renton Ave Ext which Unit#1 needed to traverse across. Ping proceeded to make the left turn, but struck Unit#2's drivers side wheel and front bumper. The driver of Unit#2, identified as Marsel N. Sadyrbekov, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound in about the 200 block of Renton Ave Ext. approaching the controlled intersection of Taylor Ave SW in lane 2 of 2. Marsel stated as he continued going straight ahead through the intersection, he saw Unit#1 turn into the drivers side his vehicle. Marcel stated he was unable to avoid the collision and both vehicles collided causing significant damage to the drivers side wheel and drivers side fender of Unit #2. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Ping) is the proximate cause for the collision due to not granting the right of way during a left turn causing a collision. The driver of Unit#1 violated RCW 46.61.185(1) by being the driver of a vehicle intending to turn to the left within an intersection and not yielding the right-of-way to any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction which is within the intersection or so close thereto as to constitute an immediate hazard. Both arranged their own private tows. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. This is an information report only and no citations were given.
