EF90262 CASE# 25-3864 DATE OF COLLI r�510NN + 05/01/25 18:01 L1 NARRATIVE 25-3864 This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. Statements have been paraphrased and summarized. On 05/01/2024 at approximately 1805 hours I was dispatched to a Non-Injury/Non-Blocking collision at the intersection of S Grady Way and Talbot Rd S, City of Renton, County of King, Washington. Upon my arrival, I confirmed there were no complaints of injury requiring immediate medical response at the time of report. There, I was able to collect each involved party's information and independent summary of the events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 was traveling westbound on S Grady Way. He was positioned in the driver's seat with a male passenger in the front passenger seat. Unit#1 was in lane 1 of 2. He was approaching a bus which was stopped in lane 1 of 2 and decided to merge into lane 2 of 2 to go around the bus. Unit#1 merged over without yielding to Unit#2 causing the driver's side of Unit#1 to collide with the front passenger side of Unit#2. Unit#2 was occupying lane 2 of 2 traveling westbound on S Grady Way. The driver of Unit#2 stated they observed Unit#1 approaching a stopped bus in lane 1 of 2 on S Grady Way. The Driver of Unit #2 stated they saw Unit#1's blinker indicating a lefthand merge and Unit#1 begin to merge but had no time to brake before Unit#1 collided with the front passenger side of Unit#2. Based on the above statements, I determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Alvarez) is the proximate cause for the cause of collision as Alvarez violated RCW 46.61.140(1) which states that a vehicle shall be driven as nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety. Alvarez made a lane change into Unit#2's lane of travel which had the right of way and was underway. Alvarez did not ensure that traffic in lane 2 of 2 was clear of hazard before making the unsafe lane change. The driver of Unit#2 (McDowell) was provided an AXON link for dash cam footage he had of the collision. He uploaded a recorded video to AXON. Both vehicles were able to be driven away without incident. An exchange of information was provided to both parties.
